What would the three a level equivalent of AAAA be?

A cousin of dd’s has finished her a levels at the same time as DD. The cousin got A*AA from a fancy grammar school. Which is fabulous.

DD got AAAA from a rough comp in a deprived area. My dbro made a tongue in cheek comment about his daughter being brighter than mine because of the at a A level. But surely 4 As is harder to get than A AA.

Fully aware that unis only ask for three a levels! There was a reason DD decided to do 4.

Doh!

…because of the A star at A level. But surely 4 As is harder than A star AA

I have no idea but your brother sounds like a peach. I hope neither of the girls heard that. It SCC Honda like they are both super smart with bright futures.

you’re comparing apples and pears and it won’t do your daughter any good.

If your brother makes the comment again shut him down. Your DD has done brilliantly, and that’s the end of the discussion.

Weird auto correct

They both did well. He thinks his DD did better because she got an A* . You think your DD did better because she went to a worse school in a worse area. You wouldn’t have mentioned it otherwise.
Just ignore him.

WickieRoy · 18/08/2024 10:20

The programme I teach on has every requirements of A star AA or AAA and an A at AS, so yes I'd say broadly equivalent.

That's irrelevant though as the problem is your insecure asshole of a brother. Definite cause for a passive aggressive remark about your DD's achievements not taking away from his, and they've both done well etc.

Beamur · 18/08/2024 10:21

Kind of obvious that the 4 A levels are a bigger work load. Although the A* means a higher score in one subject..
If you look at the UCAS points (A*=56 and A=48)
4xA=192
2xA plus 1xA*=152
Bit petty really as both girls have got amazing results!

SoupDragon · 18/08/2024 10:36

Your brother made a jokey comment.

you've posted on a large social media site saying that surely your DD is brighter.

🤷🏻‍♀️

Sounds like a little sibling rivalry/ teasing which you have taken way too seriously.

turkeymuffin · 18/08/2024 10:49

Sounds like he's jealous you've got the broadly equivalent grades without paying £££

Fgfgfg · 18/08/2024 11:01

Your DD has done probably done better. Universities can look at context when considering grades. If she went to a poor school then her grades are a more significant achievement so at a more successful school she may well have achieved 4A*. Your brothers a bit of a twat.
