My DS got 2 Ds (A Levels) and a distinction.

He's disappointed in the 2Ds but still got into his first choice uni to do Geography.

What with COVID screwing up his schooling, dyslexia, and difficulty with exams......I'm happy for him.

Not everyone is A* material. A string of academic qualifications does not necessarily equal a happy and successful life or make you a better person.

Absolutely @Justforoncecansomethinggoright!
Someone's D or C may be their very best performance and as good an achievement as an A star for them! And uni is not for everyone either.
My son is not academic and happily left school behind at 16 with only the bare minimum GCSEs. He's just turned 21 and qualified as a fitness instructor and personal trainer. He has a day job working retail and has been teaching at a gym and co coaching a footie team in the evenings. Still trying to find his place, he's had four years work experience, lives on his own so has been 'adulting' since 18. I'm as proud of him as I am of my all A star Durham bound DD.

That's amazing! Well done him!!

PineappleCake100 · 16/08/2024 08:12

Well done to your son and all the best to him at Uni!

Thank you for your post...every child is different and its good to see a thread praising and celebrating their achievements.

DS1 did a BTEC and got MMP. He is off to uni to do a degree in electronic music production for which he received an unconditional offer.

I am very proud of him as he was always adamant that he would not be going to uni!

It’s lovely to read this thread my DD didn’t get AS grades she wanted this week but can continue on her courses luckily, my younger DD fell out of mainstream school last year so is definitely following a different path to maybe getting some igcses. My brother failed his A levels years ago did a IT on job training brilliant 1st career, then 20yrs later switched careers got a degree by working around studies & earns loads running his own successful surveying business. There are many paths through life that don’t require a A*

Frightenedbunny · 21/08/2024 08:34

Just for an update, my DS has secured an apprenticeship as a Civil Engineer. It’s worked out just fine and I’m immensely proud of him. It’s a level 4 course for 2 years for which he required an a level in maths so he hasn’t wasted his last 2 years. Once he’s completed that, they will put him through a level 6 qualification which is equivalent to a degree.

SwimingSummer · 21/08/2024 08:42

That sounds brilliant @Frightenedbunny my DH manages a young lad like that and he’s doing really well even got promoted and still doing day release to get his funded degree in engineering. It’s a win win for the company and DH as he has a really motivated bright young man in his team. I hope it works out well as when it’s a good fit it’s brill. I wish we could find something similar for my eldest DD but her career choice is much tricky to find one in.

Frightenedbunny · 21/08/2024 20:12

Thank you @SwimingSummer. I hope you find something for your daughter too.

No one ever prepares you for the challenges of being a parent !

Dd got CC and a distinction in a BTEC.

She's just qualified as a physio with a Masters, is starting a fantastic job, already has a specialism and is basically thriving hugely.

@Prenelope well done to your DC. I’ve told my DS that a level results don’t define you as a person. Everyone finds their way eventually.

SwimingSummer · 22/08/2024 13:38

@Prenelope that’s lovely to hear my DD wants to do physio but isn’t a A grade student so will be a longer route if she can’t up her A levels next year but has the right personal attributes I think for that field.

socks1107 · 22/08/2024 13:59

My dd got D M P. More than predicted and got into her first university to study drama.
She left high school with three GCSE's , has re sat one and has really worked hard to attain these grades. I'm super proud of her

Frightenedbunny · 22/08/2024 18:23

That’s amazing @socks1107 . I love hearing all these stories of kids doing well 😀

TheSweetestHalleluja · 22/08/2024 19:02

Such a lovely thread, makes me feel better about my own mediocre GCSE and A Level results from decades ago ... At the time I was happy with them, but reading on here made me realise I am most definitely average Grin But also happy and healthy and fulfilled, which is all I ask for my own DC now too!
