Clearing practicalities

Hi, struggling to sleep with thoughts of what may lie ahead today as from what DC said after exams, they didn't go great so going into clearing is fairly likely i think. I've read on here and wikiwau about trying to use several phones to call different unis becauseit may take a while to get through on thr clearing lines. What happens if she is on the phone to one uni and the other I am calling picks up? I know it has to be her who speaks to them directly so not sure what we'd do then? Thanks all

Good morning!
School staff here also can’t sleep due to the anticipation of today! If that does happen, stick the phone on speaker and just explain to the call handler that she’s on the other line get her to say hello and then you crack on on her behalf getting some info (what courses are available, how many points etc). They may need her for the conversation at some point but there’s certainly info that you can gather so you may be passing phones around! Lots of unis also offering online chats so you may be able to use those too.
Good luck, it’s going to be busy, but many students are hugely successful in Clearing every year (and also she might not need it, lots of unis will have accepted students who have missed grades, the early reports online suggesting more will have done this this year!)

We were in a similar situation last year.

Mumsnet don't half make a drama about clearing!

You may be pleasantly surprised as even if your ds's grades are lower than required, the unis are so desperate to fill places they'll still accept the student.

That is what happened with my DD. However, she'd been doing her research in the weeks leading up to results day and found a course she liked better at a different uni. Come results day, she rejected her firm and her insurance and by 10 am she had an offer.

Good luck today!

Ah thanks @Buttons0522 that makes sense, that's brilliant. Hope your day goes well and for all your students too

Let us know, OP!

Good luck! My son went through clearing last year and it was pretty straightforward. He phoned a couple and got through quickly. One Uni that he accepted were very professional and the other had someone on the phones who was the most incompetent person I had ever heard on the other end.

@JaneBirkinstock @Ellerby83 @sausageupanalley
Useful advice, thanks.

Given that clearing seems to open at 8am, is it then better to try to sort the clearing calls out from home?

Only asking as I think DC's school does help with calls, seem to recall they've had desks set up in the hall with lots of teachers at hand.

And good luck, OP, hope it went your DC's way!

I'm lurking on here as we have it all to come next year.

Thanks all, she got into her first choice so that's a big relief. Good luck to all the DC getting their results today x

Well done @sausageupanalley DD 😊

@pgtips2 I don't think it matters, whichever your DC prefers. My DD just wanted to get home and get it sorted. Before noon she was at the pub celebrating!
