Glasney Village Penryn

Does anyone have experience of the shared accommodation at Glasney Village Penryn. DS has an offer (conditional) for Falmouth Uni and has been offered one of these shared rooms. He had ranked all the other options above this.
Are they very small? He has a lot of art materials and in the 3D pictures on the website the space looks very limited. We are now trying to see if there are any private options available but I’m not sure if this is a good idea for a first year?

There were a lot of posts about these on WIWIKAU a couple of years ago. Might be worth doing a search & asking for an update

My daughter has accepted an offer for Exeter at Penryn (did the IB so already has results) and her accommodation application is still processing. Would you mind me asking when your son got his accommodation offer? Tia.

DD had an unconditional offer at Uni of Exeter Penryn. She put her accommodation application in end of April and had an offer of a room June 26th.
Re. the shared rooms I have heard anecdotally that normally most people end up being able to switch to a single occupancy room/end up being the only occupant of a shared room by Christmas.

Thank you- I’m getting really stressed about it!! Son really isn’t keen to share… but private options are more expensive and full year contracts. I have also heard that usually by Christmas they have a single room so part of me thinks he should just go ahead and keep fingers crossed. But then on the other hand it’s not me that’s going to be living there sharing a room.
@tadjennyp He had the offer on 25th July.
of course he still has to achieve the grades to gain his place which is why it feels a bit premature to have to make decisions and pay deposits by the 8th August.

Well if we have to pay deposits by the 8th of August I hope they process her application really soon then! She wanted a shared room as it was cheaper but I don't think that's a great idea. She isn't the tidiest!

Rainingcatsandmice · 06/08/2024 21:45

My son isn’t very tidy either!! I hope you hear something soon :)

Also- my son had an email with his offer. It was also there when he logged into the room app thing where they had to rank and submit the application so might be worth checking there too.

I think they do the allocations differently for the Exeter Uni students from the Falmouth Uni students. I believe that for Exeter they process them in the date order they are received at the end of each month ish - so if she put in her accommodation application in July she might hear early August. Once DD got her accommodation offer she had 5 days to accept and pay the £300 deposit. For Falmouth I believe they collect everyone’s applications together after the guarantee deadline & then allocate on a ballot basis. As OP said she could also see the offer on the site where she had gone in to submit the application/ranking choices.
Hopefully it will all work out for them and they will have a great time. I haven’t been there yet but my daughter loved the campus when she visited in March so I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Well dd got her offer today for a shared room and I have already paid the deposit! I hope it works out for her...

Mine has also been allocated a shared room (which was bottom preference of the ten). Knew there was a fair chance this would happen but still hoped otherwise.

It's not a great situation but we are pinning hopes for a fast move to a single room. It's a practical art course too, so not even close to campus, plus the storage of materials is a concern.

The private halls with remaining rooms are so expensive per week (220+) and when you factor in having to pay for an extra 10 weeks in the contract too; it's over 4k more than the standard uni owned single rooms.

This is what we are finding too. The more affordable rooms have already gone! We applied for one yesterday but there were 10 applications before ours so not holding out much hope!!
I spoke to accommodation (again) yesterday. This time they said they email all students after 2 weeks of term who are in a shared room. If they want to change room they have to reply to the email. Then when/if rooms become available they are offered in order to those who responded, ie the first to respond will be offered first and so on.
Its a shame as it’s put a bit of a downer on the whole thing really!!

Yes, exactly this. No excitement about what to get for her new room, just nerves.
Decided to stop telling her friends from home as everyone winces at the idea and their reaction was making her feel worse.
Hopefully the special nature of the place will make it all worth it in the end.

I am typing this in October 2025 and my daughter is now in her second year ( I was going through the same application issues like you last year so I hope your child too is now in second year like mine. Mine is at Exeter Uni not Falmouth). Mine has now moved onto Packsaddle Hill which is more modern with dishwashers ! But the kitchen is still as dirty!

please send me a message I would love to hear from another parent at Penryn Campus!

My dd at Exeter has moved into a shared house in Penryn. It's a nice house but very difficult to drive to as it's on a hill! I hope your dd is happy in Packsaddle Hill.
