Erasmus at City of Bristol College - Accommodation and Cultural Experience

Hello Erasmus students! I'm planning to do an exchange at the City of Bristol College. Can anyone share their Erasmus experience there? I'm also looking for short-term student accommodation near the City of Bristol College. Uninist seems to offer flexible options - has anyone used their services for Erasmus's stays? What's the best way to immerse in British culture while in Bristol? Are there many international events? Any tips on making the most of a short study period in Bristol, both academically and culturally, would be much appreciated!

I have a suspicion they won’t have many Erasmus students as it’s not a university on a par with the University of Bristol which is the big one with many exchange students. What had this college said to you and is it a work based programme? Most universities have a dedicated Exchsnge Office. What have they set up for you? Have they given ideas for accommodation because Bristol is short of it.

Culturally - make friends with other students. My DD was in Bristol but not at your college. She did an Erasmus year abroad. Is the college doing any welcome events? These are useful to get started.

There is loads to do and see in Bristol. Time Out gives listings. It’s a great place to be and has historic sights (SS Great Britain) good museums, a beautiful cathedral and a busy night life. Some very good theatre, music and food venues too. Hope it works out for you.

Yes, I consulted them again and they are taking time reverting and I think you are right they are not that big of a university to have that program. So it's very unlikely that I will even apply to it but it's at least better than nothing and waiting a whole year to apply again.

Yes, for student accommodation in Bristol they have given me advice to go with either Uninist or University Living. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. Uninist is giving me an option for having a flexible lease for even 2 weeks to try it out and continue with them. if everything goes well. But on the other hand, University Living has a lot more options in Bristol. So it's kinda confusing. I would be very grateful if you could help me with that.

Anyway, looking forward to moving to Bristol soon and doing my master's from here only. Hopefully will find good company and have a great time with others.
Thanks for all the advice. I hope you have a great day.

My DD had university of Bristol managed accommodation. The ones you list are private providers. So flexible might be good. No views really. I simply don’t know them. Does City have a programme for Erasmus students? What do they offer?

Where else does your home uni offer in the uk? This college is barely recognised as a uni as most students will live at home and won’t be doing degrees. What are you proposing to study? It truly won’t be a standard uk university experience.

Actually, I have applied to multiple universities in Bristol like UoB, UWE, and this one. I am hoping to get into UoB or UWE but this will be my last option. Not really looking forward to this one but at least it's better than nothing. I don't wanna wait and work till next summer admissions.

Private ones are flexible. So I'm thinking of getting accommodation with them. Then once I find a better one or the one managed by the university only. I shift to that one. Do you think that how it should be done? Can you guide me some more?

@Annie2Cambell I don’t think you can shift to uni of Bristol accommodation unless they make such accommodation available to Erasmus students. I’m not sure you realise there’s a massive difference between the college you mentioned and the other two. What subject are you studying? Certainly Uni of Bristol has a department for exchange students and would give you advice. At the college you mentioned I doubt they have very many. I assume all three offer your subject?

Annie2Cambell · 31/07/2024 07:00

All three of them are offering me the course I want to do. So, that's not an issue. Yes, I have asked the department and they have cleared all my doubts, they have even told me where and how to apply for accommodation specifically for Erasmus students. Thank you for all your advice and concern. Sorry I wasn't able to get back to your before.
