Microbiology Universities

Morning,

Has anyone got experience of having kids doing Microbiology or immunology degrees please? My daughter has been to a few universities and loves Glasgow and Nottingham. Found Manchester ok, didn't like Lancaster. Her first choice at the moment is Glasgow (we live in England) but I'm worried are would be bored the first year.

Any experience please? .

Thanks

If she thinks that she'll be bored during first year at Glasgow, having considered the courses / course content / social aspects etc, do her predicted grades meet the requirements to be considered for advanced entry (direct entry to year 2)?

Mostly students will start off on general biological sciences degrees and specialise in microbiology and immunology.

Unis to consider as well as the ones you've mentioned- include Cardiff, Bristol, Birmingham, Warwick, UEA.

And probably many more.

My DD did a general biomedical science degree first and then followed it with a masters in Immunology at King's.

Does she realise how much contact time there will be? I'm not sure she'll have time to be bored Wink

DS applied for direct entry to second year at St Andrews because he also thought he would be bored. The figure they take is tiny and he didn't receive an offer.
York has an immunology department but not sure if there is an undergraduate option. They have a good reputation for biomedical.
Durham does a common first year for biological sciences and then students choose modules to make their own pathway. DS is loving it there.

Don’t know much about the particular subjects, but I find this interesting because I think Glasgow and Lancaster are currently the two hidden gems of UK HE!

Very similar story here. DD did biomed at NTU then a Masters in infectious diseases at LSHTM. Loved her Masters course, hope yours did too.

@thing47 she did though it was an intense course! She went on to do a PhD at KCL specialising in mycology and is now a postdoc at Harvard Med School in Boston US. I do miss her though...
