Can I apply for DSA and take postgrad finance later?

I'd like to defer taking postgrad finance until my second year (part time course whilst working), and put the first year on an interest free credit card and start paying it off immediately. It seems I can do this as long as I take the finance before May of the second year.

It also seems I can apply for DSA without taking student finance - but I can't see whether I can apply for DSA and take student finance later, or whether I'll have scuppered myself doing that?

Anyone happen to know?

Thanks

I thought DSA was independent of student finance, but the only way to get a definitive answer is to ask them directly.

I used to work as a student advisor & my understanding is that you can apply for DSA irrespective of whether you receive a loan or grant from SFE. As a postgraduate student you will need to complete the full DSA1 form rather than the slim form. I can’t then see any reason why you can’t apply for student finance for the 2nd year. Due to the fact you are postgrad & part time you need to apply for DSA for each year of study (as an undergrad you only need to apply for DSA once & the support then rolls over from year to year). I would suggest that you clarify with the student well-being/ disability service at your uni for more information as they will be the most up to date & knowledgeable.

My DS had DSA and post grad loans.

Yep as above, DSA1 form - you will need to send this to the institution you will be going to to be stamped as DSA doesn't operate an online application system for postgrads. You can self fund and still be eligible for DSA, you need to meet the eligibility criteria (residency etc) but you don't actually have to take the postgrad loan to get DSA.
