Just wondering if anyone knows of a decent agency that provide summer casual work for Students.
Preferably one that treats their members well and not just use them.

Thanks in advance.

Most universities/students' unions will have online jobs boards. Some just advertise jobs on campus, others include local employers. They will insist on certain pay rates (probably just NLW) etc.

Igmum thanks for your reply.
My daughter is having a gap year after the A levels so not at uni yet.
Thanks again though.

Surely most employers would expect an 18 year old to make a direct application, they they wouldn't want to pay commission for someone in an entry level role.

She could try any tourist attractions, NHS admin, play schemes, retail, hospitality....

@BettiG No need for a specialised agency. Big jobs boards like Indeed have casual jobs and temporary jobs. Just make sure you specify your search filters carefully.

What type of student are they? There are internships on offer for penultimate year uni students, though most were advertised a few months ago.

They're not at uni yet, taking a gap year, so entry level, school leaver, casual work from the OP

@BettiG is you daughter a good swimmer? There is always a lot of demand for lifeguards. The Lifeguarding NPLQ course takes 5 days and costs about £200 which they can easily earn back in a couple of 8-hour shifts. There are often casual lifeguarding jobs at local sports centres that are relatively well paid (especially local authority sports centres because in my experience they pay the age 21+ rate of national living wage even to younger lifeguards).

It's the sort of skill that's transferrable to a casual job at uni too.

Does it have to be casual work?! Friends of my DD went for full time jobs (probably didn't mention the gap year or subsequent travel plans) and just binned the job. A couple continued part time at uni.

In London for waitressing jobs at events, you could look at High Society and Flutes. They provide staff for ad hoc corporate events in nice venues and also sporting events etc I think.
I’m not sure of specific companies in other areas but there must be similar 😊

There are agencies who specialise in staff for large events such as concerts, sporting events, corporate events, etc. However, these hours tend to be quite casual and the agencies often don't call until the last minute.

If your DD is on a gap year and not yet in university, she is available to do full-time hours. In this case, she would be better off applying directly to employers. The agencies are more suitable for students who are only available to do a small number of hours on an ad-hoc basis.

English language residential schools are all recruiting madly for Activity Leaders for the upcoming summer. All activity staff are students, either school leavers/pre uni/at uni. They get board and lodging on residentials or if you live somewhere with schools that take non res staff, they'll earn a bit less.

Thank you all so much for your advice and tips.
Some of which we would never of thought of.

My dad signed with them for a while despite being a fully trained barista, worked as a waitress in a 4 rosette restraint, work in a cocktail and bar in a club she never got anything.
She started in Starbucks, that gave her experience that then got her her other jobs.
Now she's at uni she kept her bar job in the holidays and is now a team leader. I would just get a job looking indeed and work from there.
