Primary Teaching degrees with QTS - any recommendations?

My DC would like to go to some open days during the summer and wants to be a primary school teacher. Does anyone have any experience of where is good for this ? They don't want a major city. We are North West but seeing as the older DC is planning on a Uni 5/6- hrs away distance probably won't come into it. Thank you

My sister did her degree at Winchester and had a great time. It's a City but a small one, and the Campus/Uni isn't too big either.

Hi

I'm not sure where I would recommend but when QTS is included, I would want great schools to be standard. You need good mentoring.

Homerton?

Worcester has always had a good reputation for education courses. A very small city and I imagine life is pretty campus oriented.

Lincoln has a good reputation for primary teaching. You want Bishop Grossteste University.

Dd completed her BEd in primary education, with QTS, last summer at Edge Hill University. She really enjoyed it. You can chose to do your placements locally or they have them further afield (Luton and near the Lakes iirr). Or you can choose to do it nearer your home, or an alternative address, and they will try to locate you a school nearby. Dd did her final placement at a really good school near home. She and some friends selected a further afield location for their second one and were placed at a school in Luton. A very large, diverse primary school - very different to the one near home the year after. Not easy at times but she enjoyed it and she, and her friends, loved living so close to London for a few weeks.

My former boss's son is at Derby and loving the course.

Years ago, as a governor, we liked NQTs from Oxford Brookes. No QTS included in those days but might be now. it's a great city in which to be a student. UCL has an interesting Education Society and Culture course but you need to do QTS afterwards. It's a hugely respected department though.

Homerton?

Homerton is no longer a teacher training college, but a "normal" Cambridge college. You can do a BA in Education at most (but not all) Cambridge colleges - it's not a BEd, so you'd need to do a PGCE or equivalent afterwards.

Kingston and Roehampton used to be good for that.

I would second Edge Hill or Chester, worked with some great trainees from both.

Bunnyannesummers · 15/05/2024 17:11

If you’re in the North West, edge hill, Chester or Liverpool hope are great options.

PandaG · 15/05/2024 17:14

Liverpool Hope. DD loved her time there

Chester. Great Uni and great course. Lovely easy city to get round and good transport links. I
