Taking A levels in two separate years

Do universities like UCL accept results spread across two years or do they want it in one sitting?

Say for example, a UK student gets AstarACC for maths, further maths, physics and chemistry in 2023/24. The student then resits physics and chemistry (Pearsons international A Levels in OCTOBER 2024) gets AA for physics and chemistry in 2024/25.

Will places like UCL accept applications based on the best grades from both sittings?

Depends on course. For example, UCL won't accept resits for a Maths & Physics degree -

Hi, OP -

I am a former Russell Group admissions tutor. Just to be clear, you are asking sbout resits rather than simply spreading out exams. There is a big difference.

The general UCL admissions webpage says that most departments will accept one resit attempt. I read this to mean, implicitly, per subject, but that is my inference. It also says that a few departments do not accept resits so that you need to check particulars of the department you are applying to, and that more than one resit (per subject?) is frowned upon absent mitigating circumstances.

Admissions teams generally want to help. The best thing would be to consult the entry requirements for the relevant degree programme and then contact the admissions team with any questions

The UCL website says that it is course specific - e.g. this is what it says for the Maths BSc:

Resits

This programme does not accept resits. A resit is a second or subsequent attempt to improve a qualification outcome, for which you already hold an award. For further information on what UCL considers a resit, please see UCAS explained.

Everyone knows international qualifications are easier so that won’t help either. Nowhere decent will, why would they when they have applicants achieving the grades first time round.

Total rubbish about international a levels. My son's London school does 3 subjects as CIE international a levels without problems.

But yes, your title is misleading. You aren't considering sitting in two batches, but instead retakes
