Does anyone hold the AMSPAR qualification for medical secretaries? If so was it worth getting? Did it improve your employment prospects? Where and how did you study? Thanks.

I used to work for a FE college that offered the course on a part-time basis (mornings or evenings) for women returning to work etc. Might be worth checking your local college prospectus...

A long story cut short. My background is HR and I wanted to work for the NHS. At the time of application I needed to have worked for the NHS for a year before applying for HR work, so I temped as a PA. Before I could work as a PA, it was strongly suggested that I have a medical secretary qualification, so I studied the AMSPAR course when I did the Pitmans Medical Secretary certificate. The course was interesting but you don't need it and it didn't improve my career prospects.

The NHS does pay for the course, although demand is usually high. If you'd like more info, just ask!
