May be doing the teacher a disservice.
There is https://www.durham.ac.uk/study/courses/geography-with-foundation-l700/
There are no A-level reqs, but loads of criteria and assessments. And very hard to get on to.
Normal degree version has AStar, A, A reqs, so I don't think I'd be advising someone with C's to go for it.

@Trixieboo87 I think I'd be suggesting to go for degrees where the requirements are similar to the predictions.

Geography with Foundation L700 - Durham University

Developing the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to explore the relationship between people and the planet.

@SisterMichaelsHabit A switched on student from any background can get a job after a geography degree. Like any other student you go to careers sessions, do some work experience and make sure you are a good fit for the job you want. First in family to go to uni does mean parents are not always sure about advice but I didn’t go to uni and in clued up! Plenty of Dc from lower achieving parents do very well and pick up very quickly how to apply for jobs and what is required.

As for unis. CCC is on the borderline for worth it or not. If she would prefer a job, what are the prospects for doing an apprenticeship and future career? What advantage would a degree bring? Are you wedded to the North?

Geography leads to so many jobs. Many of our friends became planning officers with geography degrees. Others surveyors. Plenty of variety to look at.

Also look at similar degrees, eg sustainability. Planning, conservation etc. Some foundation years are 72 UCAS points . Eg Liverpool Hope . There are low tariffs about. Use the Complete university guide and loom under geography. Look lower down the tables and click on the unis to see the courses and tariffs. Applying for apprenticeships takes a lot of time and they are hugely competitive. Some degrees are not. Decide if work is a better option though.

Do they maybe mean Northumbria University rather than Durham?

Cumbria University has several locations as its an amalgamation of a few different former colleges. One of them isn't even in Cumbria! - accommodation availabilty will depend on which 'college' in the university group is attended.

Durham, if you actually know it, isn’t a big city, more an average sized town, nowhere is that far away , though the university is concentrated within the central area and a large area, including a lot of university accommodation as you first enter the city

I would talk to the university directly to find out about the course and entry requirements if possible. The teacher's advice may well be correct.

If she means the Cumbria site in Lancaster there is loads of accommodation. I don’t know their other campuses.

Durham is a wasted choice with three Cs predicted, even for the foundation year.

Really with a geography degree you need help from someone very astute to sort out a decent career path because it's not a proper job title.

I'm a geography graduate (from Durham). I went into a big four accountancy firm followed by investment banking and I'd say geography was most of the most common degrees amongst my peers. It gives you the essay writing and numerical skills.

You are however doomed to a lifetime of colouring in jokes...

I'm also struggling a bit with particularly needing specialised help to get a job afterwards because it's not a proper job title.

Not a proper job title in the way that 'PPE' / 'Natural Sciences' / 'History' / 'Physics' are, is that?
