My son has had an offer at Warwick to study Maths but he hasn't seen the University. If we go there at Xmas will we be able to look around the campus?

Just that really, is it an open campus so we can have a wander around, maybe check out the cafeteria, local towns etc?
Will it be totally deserted over Xmas?

Go this weekend. Why wait till Christmas? Well done you and DS x

Definitely don’t go at Christmas. It’s pretty soulless at the best of times. Last years Christmas tree was easily the worst thing I’ve ever seen.
On the plus side it is a very well ranked Uni especially for Maths. I know of one that picked it over Oxbridge and it seems to be the overspill for those that don’t make it there. It’s very nerdy, geek territory imo. The campus doesn’t look lively even at it’s busiest.
DS says he’s “content”. Currently living in Canley as he didn’t want the stress of a busy bus everyday. They can walk to big Tesco and campus. There’s no parking really at Warwick if that makes a difference. I think he will look at Leamington next year as it’s a really nice little town, now he has a feel for living independently.

You should get invited to an offer holders day. Which are similar but on a smaller scale to open days

I think we'll wait for the offers day as I don't want him to be put off by a deserted campus. Thanks very much for your replies.

He could always email the department and ask roughly when the offer holder days are expected to be?
But yes OP, much better to see a busy, working campus than an empty one in December.

DD is doing maths and philosophy at Warwick and enjoying it. She lived in Leamington in 2nd year and is in Coventry for her 3rd year. Coventry may not be pretty, but it is a really affordable student city, nice market, diverse food options, and enough night life. Also an ice rink, which is important to DD. Leamington is smaller and prettier and very studenty. No issues getting accomodation, there is plenty available. She enjoyed living on campus in first year. She picked Roots halls, which are cheap and central, and made some good friends there.
The campus will feel a bit dead out of term time. The cafes dont open in the holidays. You may be better waiting for an offer holders day.

@Pourmeanotherwine Thanks.

Just out of curiosity, approximately how much is accomodation per year in Leamington and Coventry, if you don't mind sharing?
