Degree in education (BEd) - where should DD be looking?

Lower sixth DD has decided she wants to be a primary teacher and will be applying for a BEd next year. She's pretty set on Bath Spa for a number of reasons - loves the city, close(ish) to home, course looks good - but where else should she consider?

Liverpool Hope? Not very close to home, but DD had a fab 3 years there despite it being covid. Well supported on teaching practice. About 120 in the cohort, though at Hope it is a BA with qts, rather than a BEd
She's on a gap year this year, and teaching part time, but is looking to teach in Liverpool next year

My advice is to go somewhere that isn't a former teacher training college. It can be very isolating.

Go to a place that offers a lot of subjects as she will have a better experience.

Thanks for this. I wasn’t aware of this set up of degree - BA with QTS - only the BEd or a degree plus PGCE

Winchester is well regarded for education and not too far from bath relatively speaking!

@Theworried2 Homerton college is a ‘proper college’ at Cambridge now (rather than its teacher training arm). You can do a BA in Education but that does not give you a qualification to teach. It is purely the theory of Education, history, social policy, gender issues.

Bishop Grosseteste in Lincoln is a very well regarded primary teacher training establishment.

Chichester is well known for teacher training. A smaller uni with lots going on.
Also a big drama/music conservatoire, my son is there and loves it x

I went to the University of Gloucestershire to do my BEd with QTS.

However, I would highly recommend she shadows a teacher properly to see just how much they do and speaks to teachers about the realities of the job. It’s not enough to go in and play with the children for a bit and then go home at 3. I have escaped after 6 years of misery and now have a job out of education.

She would be better doing a degree in a nc subject followed by a pgce.

Chichester is great but check if it would be at Chichester or the Bognor campus, I accidentally did a PGCE in Bognor. Not where I'd want to go as an undergrad.
