Loughborough/options for sports psychology

DD is thinking of applying to Loughborough for sports psychology.

I wondered if people could give me a view of the uni as a whole and the student experience. DD is on track for good grades and I’ve suggested that she studies a broader psychology course first to keep her options open- we’ve looked at UCL and KCL because she was originally keen on a London uni. And then do a masters in sports psychology if she still wants at the end.

Id be grateful for any thoughts on the best way to proceed and on what Loughborough is like as a place to study. Im worried that she’ll find it a bit quiet (we live in a city and until now DD has been thinking of applying to cities). Im also slightly worried that, if the sports psychology idea doesn’t work out or she changes her mind, her options will be more limited with a more specialist degree from Loughborough than a more general degree from a higher rated uni. But she’s very keen on the course and that counts for a lot.

Any thoughts gratefully received.

My DS is at Lboro and really likes it. There is another thread on Lboro where I and others have expounded at length! will look for it.

But in short:
Great uni, highly regarded
Brilliant HUGE campus
Sport for all - compete for your uni or just for fun at a massive range of sports
Great facilities - 50m pool, amazing gym
Lots of other opportunities - very campus focused bc town is small so lots of drama, music, and other club related opps
Big focus in hall on intra-mural events

However I agree that the place itself is very small and a student looking for a city would be disappointed. A friend's lad going from biiiiig city to small city (not L boro) found he had to rethink what "fun" was. If your DD loves clubbing gigs, theatre, shopping, that's not really to be found in Lboro. If she is keen I suggest she needs a good outlet catered to by the uni - so yy sport, but also as above, music, acting, creative arts etc etc.

DS2 is on an integrated masters and did rather ruefully say "well that means I am here for four years" - but that said, he hasn't been home all summer really as the gym etc is so good.

That’s really helpful, thanks!
