Uni refund for strikes

I can't see another thread about this - has anyone's child complained and asked for compensation for classes missed due to the strikes?

It seems each Uni has a different policy, some are acknowledging it and have a process whereas others are making it more difficult.

DS has an 11 week term and the entire first week is cancelled with no alternative work offered. This seems ridiculous that the Uni keeps the money as obviously the tutors aren't being paid.

There is some litigation going against universities starting with London although it is currently on a pause for the parties perhaps to settle. That is from strikes in earlier years. I think individual students should consider small claims cases all over the country to get the universities to do something about this - some are stll waiting for summer 2023 degrees even.

There is a large class action students affected by either Covid or Strikes (or often both!) can join at: https://studentgroupclaim.co.uk/

article about it here: https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/university-students-covid-lockdown-fees-strikes-mass-lawsuit-compensation-b1036664.html

my DD is just about to start the Uni journey so hasn’t experienced any of this but her Uni are threatening various teaching limitations. WhiLt sympathetic to those not being paid a fair wage I I feel so sorry for those who quasi-graduated recently with no degree classification due to the strikes, on top of Covid lockdowns and cancelled A levels.

I cannot believe these students who have finished degrees but not been awarded their final degrees because of this, it's disgustingly

It just seems so obvious to me that these kids are taking on these huge debts and ffs if they aren't even getting the teaching then they should be refunded in part.

I think most of them will have the degree marked by Christmas, not that that is any excuse. They have paid about £30k plus 3 years of rent for something they have not had - the degree which is the whole point of it. Were they never to get their degree they should be entitled to about £50k for fee/rent refunds and another sum on top for a loss of 3 y ears of their lives eg 3 years of wages; may be total of £100k each so hopefully the universities will get their act together and mark the degrees from summer 2023.

I’m furious that my DC in something like the third week of university is having a week of strikes, and he’s basically bored – rattling around a town with nothing to do and not good enough friends yet to enjoy time off. They’re paying rent and fees to be there studying . If someone can explain how to start a small claim, I’d be very interested to hear. It’s outrageous
