Student finance - quitting and restarting

DS is seriously considering leaving uni- just about to start 2nd year. Very unhappy. They will give it a few weeks maybe a term to decide. My worry is that they will not be able to get any further and future funding if they start another degree next year. Does anyone know if funding is completely impossible to get if someone quits in 2nd year ? Would they still be able to get partial funding ?

It's important not to start the 2nd year as you get 4 years funding! My dd quit after 2 years and had to pay for one year of her subsequent degree

Thanks @gogomoto . It’s so difficult to advise what to do. Maybe they should just quit now, but DS was doing so well academically, got a 2:1 at end of first year. Very capable intellectually. But they are saying they want something more “hands on”. I don’t want them to be distressed and unhappy but I feel if only they could just try and get through the next 2 years . They could then do something different afterwards. to fIt’s a prestigious university. Terms are so short now , they would essentially finish in April! So much to consider, they are in a shared house , so would have to cover the remaining rent for the year now.

Entitlement is course length plus one year. So assuming dc is on a three year course, and quits at Christmas having used one year and one term of funding, they will be entitled to a further two years and two terms of SLC fee and maintenance loan funding.

So if they started from scratch they would have to fund the first term themselves. (Or first year and first term of second year if they restarted on a four year course.)
