Entering Higher Ed in my 30's

I've bit the bullet and applied for a degree in Education that I've always wanted to pursue. But, due to babies being born, I had to delay...yaadaa yaadaa lol

Anyway, my course requires a placement as a given! The course is due to start in a few weeks, but as an agency worker - I haven't been placed anywhere yet.

I'm not in a position to undertake unpaid work, but I have been temping long term this past year at a school. But that role came to an end in June.

Currently, I am waiting for a similar placement to come up with my agency and I'll use that as my placement.

I've explained this to my Uni but I am hitting a brick wall with this situation.

It is reasonable for me to ask if they would give me a bit more time to get my placement sorted...

Are Uni's flexible in any way? I'm a committed mature student, I just need some time (possibly 4-6 weeks) to finalise a placement. It's not impossible, schools are looking for long term temp staff.

Some advise would be appreciated.

Did your university ever agree to you sorting your own placement out?

And why aren’t you in a position to undertake an unpaid placement? Presumably you’re receiving student finance?

Which course are you doing?
Usually schools that offer placements have to be fully on-board with that, and there will be requirements of them. There is no guarantee that any school you are temping at will be able to meet those requirements. A training placement is different to a temping job (although possibly some schools might be willing to negotiate on that).
