Liverpool uni green bank accommodation - thoughts?

DD has been offered green bank student accommodation at Liverpool uni. Not in her top 3 choices and we haven’t looked at it as she wanted to be in the city centre.
Is it nice? It looks it, but much further out than she wanted and expensive.
She can reject it, but no guarantees accommodation then and don’t want to end up with nothing.

Lovely green area, right by Sefton Park, Lark Lane is off here and has numerous restaurants and bars and then there is smaller Greenbank Park on doorstep. Location wise it's a student area, close to Smithdown, again lots of cafes, bars and lots of private student digs. Frequent buses into city centre, would take approx 15 mins so location wise it is pretty decent.
If it were me, I'd prefer to be out of city centre, but as a 1st year they may want to experience the city centre living on the doorstep and can always move to outskirts in years ahead.
Good luck with it all.

I lived in greenbank many many moons ago. There is a bus that stops right outside the halls that takes you into campus and then into the city. It's a 10 minute walk from Smithdown Road which has lots of student bars. Most students from greenbank get a house on Smithdown in their second and third years. I still went into the city most days and never felt that I missed out because of the distance.

The grounds at greenbank are amazing. I remember water fights, massive games of hide and seek, lounging around on summer days and being pushed around in a shopping trolley 🤣.

I was at Greenbank 40 years ago! 😂 They have knocked it down and rebuilt it all since then, so the halls are pretty new. It's not far into lectures on the bus and the area has been thriving for students for decades. Also, lots of housing stock around there for when she moves out. A green, leafy site, as well as being near the park. A chance to be part of the local community rather than just stuck on a campus, when you might as well be anywhere. My guess is that it will still be an incredibly popular choice, so I'd say go for it - she would be very lucky to live there.

Greenbank is in a lovely part of Liverpool, and close to Smithdown Rd and Lark Lane which are the biggest studenty areas outside of the city centre. The student bus 699 goes past regularly, I don't know if they still do the night bus. I've not been inside the new halls but they look nice from the outside.

This is amazing, thank you all so much, very happy to hear it’s so nice. Excited for her (and very jealous too!)

Hi OP. Did your dd do her year in Greenbank and if so how did she find it? My dd has a place at Liverpool for Sept 26 and we looked round all the accommodation yesterday. She really likes Greenbank, but she doing a very lecture-heavy course so I'm thinking she may be better opting for one of the campus halls - also to have that convenience for just being able to walk down to Liverpool 1 etc.
Thanks.

Hi @Romeiswheretheheartis yes she loved it and DD2 is there this year (also loving it). It’s a great part of Liverpool and they both loved the parks and greenery. The flats are all lovely. But despite this, they would both have preferred to be in the centre. It is a pain getting the bus every day and Ubers back from nights out in Liverpool.

id say if she’s set on Liverpool, firm it early and apply for accommodation as early as possible to be in with the best chance of first choices. (mine didn’t and GB wasn’t on any of their choices, but they still loved it anyway). Hope that’s helpful .

My daughter started at UoL this Sept, and is living in accommodation around Myrtle st area of town... not the prettiest but she has a very heavy timetable so is appreciating being able to walk to lectures and she also has a pt job in city centre. Hers was done through Student Roost so not directly through UofL, this mrans you might be with students who attend John Moores but her flatmates bar 1 who is on a foundation course for their 1st year have all been UoL but in all honesty this didn't bother her anyway. Accommodation itself is well maintained and takes her approx 15mins fast walk to her uni buildings. Liverpool is a fantastic city.

@Candleabra thanks so much for replying. I think my dd will feel the same, but she's quite set on Greenbank at the moment. She has her place confirmed already, she's now on a gap year, so she'll be ready to apply the minute the accommodation window opens. Thanks again!
