DD is interested in become a primary school teacher.

She has been reading up on the different ways into the profession and is interested in this course https://www.undergraduate.study.cam.ac.uk/courses/education (she's v strong academically so it's a possibility).

I just wondered if anyone had any experience of the course and any views on an education degree as a route into teaching. She knows that you don't need to study education as an undergrad to become a primary teacher- you can do a PGCE- but tells me that she thinks she would otherwise need to study a curriculum subject like English or maths, which she doesn't especially want to do- if not education then she's thinking of sociology or possibly philosophy. Is this right?

Would welcome any views. This is all a few years off so she has time to think.

Her degree would not need to be in a curriculum subject to teach primary - any degree subject should be fine, so she can choose what interests her or what might keep other career options open. For secondary, it's best to have degree related to the subject you want to teach.

I did a forerunner of the education course above and enjoyed it. It involved looking at education from different angles - so I did history, philosophy, sociology and psychology of education - it looks like those are all still in the course.
