A level Business and Economics for an Economics degree

Posting this again as i need opinions urgently.

Im in yr12 transitioning to yr13. My A levels are Maths, Economics, Business studies and Computer science. Im going to drop either Computer Science or Business. In Business Im achieving A/A* while in Computer Science Im achieving low B's. The chances of me getting an A in Comp Sci by the end of yr13 is low.

Preferably i would like to drop Computer Science however I've been warned to stay away from the Business Economics overlap.

I want to apply for Economics at universities with requirements AAA - A*AA. Im thinking of applying to places like Manchester, Nottingham, Bristol, Birmingham, Loughborough. Majority of the top universities don't state anything about the overlap other than LSE or Durham unless I've misread . What will be the best option going forward? Dont want to apply blindly then get rejected.

For context im achieving A's in both Maths and Economics. I've also emailed and called some unis but have not received replies.

Hi, @sam122

I am a former admissions tutor at an excellent UK university. You sound very thoughtful and I am sorry that your excellent question likely caught the admissions tutors during the silly season when everyone is frantic and exhausted. Things won’t really calm down until early October.

Even though I am in STEM I think you should drop CS, although as you get on with your Business Studies teacher it would be great to confer with them first, if possible. Also I suggest posting your dilemma to the online forum TheStudentRoom where current undergraduates can give you advice.

My reasons are the same as everyone else’s, and your own: you like Business Studies, the three remaining A Levels integrate very well (the issue is whether they integrate too well) and CS just isn’t working for you right now. So let it go. Do think about learning to code, because that is a useful skill for an economist’s CV. But it can wait.

Above all I agree with the PPs who said that if you take this route, go all out to to your best! Good luck to you

Drop the CS and get the highest grades you possibly can for your A levels. There will be the odd couple of unis who won't like the overlap but the vast majority will take you with A*/A predicitions rather than with a B intermingled in there if aiming for A star AA offers or AAA offers.
