Computer Science - Which Uni with these grades?

My DC is about to start Yr13 and will be applying to read Comp Sci.

They are taking Maths, Chem and CS - he’ll get his official predicted grades next month but from his mocks he thinks A star, AA is achievable although the school may predict A star, (comp Sci), A star (maths) A (chem).

He doesn’t want to try for Oxbridge (he’s autistic and the interview process would be almost impossible for him). Imperial require further maths which his school couldn’t offer him due to a timetable clash.

He’s been rocked a bit by the A level results just released and has now convinced himself not to be too ambitious with his uni choices. I think he should put one or two ‘aspirational’ unis. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what places might suit a shy, quiet boy who lacks confidence?

Not having FM will only discount the top / super competitive unis, so I wouldn’t see this as too much of a problem.

For Scottish unis, if you’re not in Scotland, bear in mind that you’ll be paying for 4 years rather than 3 (I think Glasgow might be an exception to this?).

You may also have other things to bear in mind, such as travel distance and pastoral support.

I’d suggest looking at Southampton, Cardiff, Bath, Exeter, Lancaster, maybe Leicester?

Also have a look to see if you are eligible for a contextual offer.

What about a degree apprenticeship?

Also, would Oxbridge make reasonable adjustments for him during the interview process? I'd imagine a high proportion.of A star CS and Maths students will have a neurodiversity and it will be more common for Uni CS than it is perhaps.for his school, so he shouldn't rule Oxbridge out without checking that out first (if his grades are in line).

I don't think Oxbridge is an option without Further Maths. If the school offers Further Maths A-Level, Oxbridge expect the student to have taken it.

My step son is just about to go into his 4th year studying CS at Warwick and loves it. He and most of his friends have spent their summer doing internships and all have received firm offers of employment for when they graduate next summer. No complaints about the course.
