Thankyou
The reason why I ask is my son is thinking to do medicine and his understanding is EPQ topic has to be non related to his subjects (Maths/Chen/Bio). My understanding is he can do EPQ topic relates to his subjects chosen.
Any help appreciated.

I think the distinction is that he can't do an EPQ on something that is in his A-level syllabus, but he could do it on a biological topic that is not covered in the A-level.

It's worth thinking about the fact that medicine is about far more than the sciences people tend to study at A level, it's also about social, economic and psychological issues. These areas are worth considering for EPQ to ensure no overlap with A level subjects.

The use of AI in diagnostics.
Hot topic at the moment.

Having worked at a selective sixth form with usually around 25 medicine apllications a yesr ours did do EPQs with 3 A levels for medicine applications. They usually chose a subject in the medical field they were interested in or had experience with (eg. applicant discussing Altzheimers as experience of grandparent with it, one discussing bias of diagnosis within different ethnicities, another discussing transplantation and so on).

I would also confirm that if they are not able to access regular work experience any work in a customer facing role (such as at a pharmacy or even a cafe or retail) is useful as are any voluntary roles such as helping at beavers/cubs or rainbows/brownies etc.

Several at DD’s school volunteered at a summer play scheme for children with physical disabilities for experience. Lots are doing weekly care home volunteering.

Appreciate your comments.
Mummy is not asking for EPQ topics which child will pick from that. Mummy is asking as there are some discussions ongoing with a very independent child. I do not need to add all the details hence the question was asked in a very simple way on this platform. This is the research time so gathering info. Some helpful community members are responding and I greatly appreciate that.
Medicine is a hard degree before and after, information on that we have already gathered it but thank you for taking time to comment.

Mine is thinking of medicine - she doesn’t talk to me but her EPQ supervisor - she picked 3 things all medical but related to her and some of the medical things she has gone through and then had to submit three detailed ideas and then her tutor feedback and she chose one.

my daughter investigated 3 issues close to her eg mental health and animals etc and then chose one.
