Has anyone’s dc had their college allocation confirmed? Dd is assuming she’s been reallocated 🙁 as apparently Chads sent something out on Friday and she’s had nothing. She’s a bit down as she was hoping that as she had firmed Durham and exceeded her offer she wouldn’t be reallocated. Hope we hear something from the Uni soon 🙁

They certainly used to have the rule that if Durham was first choice and you got your offer, then you wouldn't be moved. If the info was sent by snail mail (as dd's was) then I'd say there's a good chance she'll get it shortly. If not it might be worth giving them a ring in case she's accidentally been missed.

Fruitygal · 20/08/2023 20:01

Check junk and wait until tomorrow then email x

KittyMcKitty · 20/08/2023 20:09

Thank you - if she’s not heard anything by tomorrow afternoon I’ll get her to email. They don’t guarantee not to move you but say your least likely if:

  1. firmed Durham and Met or exceeded offer
  2. Firmed Durham and were near miss
  3. Insurance candidates
  4. clearing candidates.

She firmed and exceeded so we were hopeful she would t be reallocated.

GoldenRuby · 20/08/2023 21:53

@KittyMcKitty hopefully your DD will get her email tomorrow - they may be sending them out in batches. I know when they do the original allocations they aim for a representative mix of courses in each college, so I guess it could take a little while for them to work out who to move if they try to preserve the balance.

Fruitygal · 21/08/2023 08:20

@KittyMcKitty the vast majority of kids are cat 1 on that list so fingers crossed she stays in her preferred college

KittyMcKitty · 21/08/2023 10:19

@Fruitygal yes we know most will be cat 1. And obv reallocation was always a possibility it’s just the not knowing and lack of communication from the Uni and whikst HB I’m sure has many positives with the building work on top of its location and the fact that half the students will be shipped out to some externally managed place her insurance choice would have been far preferable to this. Anyway it’s out of our hands so we’ll just have to wait.

My son was allocated to Cuths and as yet hasn't heard anything from the college. The only emails we had were from the university confirming his place on results day. Fingers crossed to hear something soon!

Khara · 21/08/2023 17:37

My dd received an email from her college (Collingwood) on Thursday evening. She has today received a formal offer of accommodation and been asked to pay advanced rent of £200. Unfortunately she hasn't been offered ensuite like she requested but hopefully she'll cope.

Jalfrezi · 21/08/2023 18:32

My ds hasn't yet heard anything from Collingwood about room allocation so not all emails have gone out yet - wonder if they are coming out in batches over the coming days.

Fruitygal · 22/08/2023 11:26

I’ve heard 4 friends children confirmed at Collingwood now. All received info on same day as the poster above.

KittyMcKitty · 22/08/2023 17:26

Well dd now not heard anything other then the generic stuff when she confirmed her offer. Nothing from Chads or from the Uni to say she’s being reallocated. She emailed Chads and got a generic response saying that she would hear when had an allocation - oh and they got her name wrong 😑. She’s now majorly stressed and anxious - I’ll be honest I’m not impressed with Durham - all the colleges are posting all over Instagram welcoming their freshers etc etc and she has nothing - she firmed them and got 2 x A* and an A so everything they wanted and they seem to be allocating to near misses / clearing etc.

MFLDurhamMum · 22/08/2023 18:20

@KittyMcKitty My DD hasn't heard a thing either from her provisional college (not Chads) if that makes you feel any better? She's a 'near miss' though. DD chill as she was just chuffed to get in to be honest!

usedtobeboss3 · 22/08/2023 18:56

Marys sent through a load of stuff today to DS; he was allocated there initially and met his offer exactly.

HarrogateMum · 23/08/2023 18:56

My DS got his email from Grey today with his room allocation and the link for the advanced rent.

Fruitygal · 23/08/2023 22:36

That’s great @HarrogateMum wgars he going to study ?

HarrogateMum · 24/08/2023 12:18

@fruitygal he is going to do natural sciences 😊

Fruitygal · 24/08/2023 14:46

@HarrogateMum my daughter does Biological Science and the department is great ! Which Natural sciences is she specialising in

libbytrois · 24/08/2023 18:37

@KittyMcKitty I felt the same 2 years ago. Put some of chaos down to teacher assessment grades. It feels so smooth this time with my next child now starting a different uni in September. Communication is so much better and no last minute arrangements!!

Dd is trying to be philosophical- she’s still heard nothing other then getting an email saying she should have received her passwords - she replied saying she hadn’t and received an email saying she’d been sent it in error. Apparently it doesn’t mean she’s being reallocated but also doesn’t mean she isn’t being reallocated. They aim to allocate everyone a college by the 7th - so 2 weeks away. Apparently all those who met their offers will be allocated before clearing / near misses but I don’t think I necessarily believe them 😂😂. Well she’s obviously in their system but who knows beyond that 😂

MFLDurhamMum · 24/08/2023 20:48

DD had a huge panic as she received an email implying it was her login followed by another saying they'd sent the first in error. For a moment she thought they'd rescinded her place altogether. Shock

On a positive note she's had another email about choosing a slot for a virtual session on year 1 module options so at least she's in the system somewhere!

I appreciate it must be an admin nightmare but sounds like some unis are better than others.

Same with us- my son got the same email in error!
We phoned up admissions today and they said he was on the system and they are working their way through sending out enrolment emails etc and we should hear something by the middle of next week. My sons friend who was provisionally allocated to same college etc has had his allocation emails so I think it just takes time! I'm doing my best to be patient!

EmmaStone · 25/08/2023 09:49

DD still not heard anything (except the incorrect email you've had as well). Still waiting on Chad's. She's now just following what they're saying in the Student Room before panicking! She seems to think things are starting to move for some colleges at least.

Longtimenewsee · 25/08/2023 11:36

2 years ago I put the chaotic Durham admin down to covid. Now I realise Durham are pretty terrible at admin.
Also the Durham portal and even their website is not the easiest to navigate going in cold
Your Dc have my sympathies.. it’s a long wait to get confirmation you are in and then another long wait for them to confirm accommodation. I think Dd heard 10 days before she moved in. Hope you all get sorted soon.

FictionalCharacter · 25/08/2023 12:35

I remember now that dd had this same issue with emails last year. She was getting all sorts of admin emails before she’d been formally told her allocation, so it was clear that she had her preferred allocation before they actually told her, if that makes sense.

Ofcourse44 · 25/08/2023 13:18

I’m now pretty convinced mine won’t get provisional college.. seems a pretty stressful system…
