Ds foundation year at uni

So ds studies Maths, CS and physics at a level

His most likely grades (based of past papers he's done) are C - Maths, B, Computer science

Now the issue comes with physics, which is around E/U.

He has applied for computer science at a uni that's pretty flexible with entry requirements (officially 112 UCAS points but after speaking to someone there they'll take anyone at 96 or above) however he is not sure if they can stretch that far with physics.

He absolutely loves computer science and had he of not done a level physics his grades would most likely be BCC, but given covid and inflated GCSEs there was no concerns on paper about him doing it at a level.

Non of his grades are through lack of trying he's just not really an exam sort of person, he prefers coursework, of which he has excelled in.

My concern is, should he need to do a foundation year, would it be a waste of time, since his maths and CS is pretty much there?

ds thinks it is a waste of time and is suggesting if he doesnt get in without a foundation year he'd rather get a normal job and study various certifications, one of which is ComTIA+, I have never heard of such as I am not a techie, and I am not sure if this would be a secure path. Has anyone heard of this before? Does this acctually help to get into tech jobs?

Is he looking at exam or predominantly coursework based degrees as this will impact how he manages at Uni?
Courses such as software engineering, rather than CS, seem to predominantly be tested on the basis of projects, coursework and tests rather than bigger exams. There seem to be quite a range of unis that do this type of course, eg: Cardiff, Sheffield Hallam, Solent to give a range.
