Does anyone else feel they wasted their undergraduate degree? Covid related

DD has confessed that she feels she let herself down with her degree.
She studied History at Oxford and came out with a 2.1. This is obviously good, but she feels that she did not live up to her own hopes. She feels that if she had her time again she would have worked a lot harder.

She was badly affected by covid. She essentially spent 2 of her 3 years living at home, as her college were very strict on who could return. This had an appalling affect on her mental health, and for a long time she considered deferring or dropping out. In the end she pushed through to get the degree done. She feels disappointed that many of the opportunities that she should have had were denied to her. Before covid, she was very passionate about her subject and was driven. But not being near friends, not having access to libraries or to live independently has made her a somewhat shy person. She wishes she could have had the opportunity to do it all over again, but differently.

I did a degree many moons ago. This was in the days when the only more academically able went to uni, so it was considered a mark of academic ability. Having a degree opened doors to graduate jobs etc. However, the economic climate changed and graduated into a recession. Graduate training schemes were cut overnight. I did start teaching to make my degree count but it wasn’t for me. Never had a graduate type job since.

However, what I learnt is that it’s not an ending. To quote from a song, it’s not where you start but where you finish. There’s plenty of opportunities still out there for her. Can she do a masters to increase her qualification?

A friend of mine feels their DC didn't make the most of things and that really this started with covid and lockdown. Basically they spent a lot of time away from the uni, so didn't make the most of social opportunities or academic. They aren't doing badly, still expected to get a 2i, but still..

But a 2i from Oxford is a great achievement. Your dd should be proud of herself.
