My ds is usually quite calm and collected but his history paper today [a whopping 40% Russia paper ] depressed him. He is angry with himself. I screwed it up he texted me at work. Timing that he thought he had sorted through revision went a bit awry for starters.
He is trying to move on but it is hard. He took the night off from revision as the next exams are after half term.
I am sure he is not alone...
He is avoiding exam talk at school as a history post-mortem will finish him off I think.
He needs AAB for university choice and he is doubting himself now...
Good luck to all going through this!

To be fair, I think some parents and students put schools under pressure to bump UCAS grades up as high as possible. My sons' school was always very very clear that the UCAS grades were what they confidently expected pupils to achieve, and they always refused to bump them up. Every year it caused at least one enormous row.

But yes, not really fair if students don't understand what the grades represent and end up making unrealistic choices.

I think the derailing was more in the tone.

Yes,loads of students and parents pressurise teachers to up grades.

I am gently bigging up insurance choice just in case. Actually, Insurance started off as his absolute favourite (Surrey) as he liked the way the politics course is structured. Also, the fact near London and has political Think Tanks on site. Then, Bath took hold of his mind and that is what he is aiming for. AAB for Bath and BBB for Surrey.

@Noway88 Just checking, given your post, you do know that it is not in fact policy to have the same grade boundries as 2019? Hopefully that provides a bit of comfort?

The Hamlet question was totally unclear on what it was all about- could have been about staging or all sorts of other things so I just don’t see how they will apply consistent marking across the responses and
then across other texts which had very basic questions which could have been easily revised for.

The Hamlet question was: ‘Images and ideas of the theatre are central to Hamlet’

Really unclear question/proposition for sure. It was so vague and could have any number of interpretations. Should they have written on meta theatre, the mouse trap idea, or different interpretations from various stage productions, or is it about deception? Your guess is as good as mine. I hope the markers recognise this and award point for a well reasoned argument backed up with necessary references whichever way each kid decided to take it. Really put my kid on the back foot though, especially as she loves Hamlet. Hoping they notice that the Hamlet essay question was far trickier than the other Shakespeare options!

Argh. Being advised not to answer a really open simple worded question unless very sure of
