Student Accomodation in London

Hi, wondering if anyone got experience of this. We are struggling to find affordable accomodation for DC who is starting uni this September. Was hoping to budget at a max of £250 per week but everything is full. Do cancellations tend to crop up around A-level results time? Or am I deluded and need to pay more?

Which uni is it for? Imperial hasn't even released their accommodation yet for Sept starters and there is many great choices for under £250 for this uni having been to their offer day recently.

If it is LSE, quite a lot of accommodation becomes available on results day when students do not make their offers.

Many 2nd and 3rd years manage to get single rooms on that day for the new term.

Hi, thanks - you are giving me hope... it is a drama school that is part of the University of London. They don't have their own haĺls of residence so DH has been dutifully trawling through al the websites for private halls.1

If it's part of the University of London then he should have access to the Intercollegiate Halls. Each constituent part has their own allocation of rooms in various halls only for their students but some halls also have ongoing applications and an open ballot on 1st September to fill empty rooms.

If your DC is looking at Central, applications for their allocated rooms in Nutford House and Garden Halls are open right now and close next week.

As above, there are definitely intercollegiate halls for UOL. Google UoL intercollegiate halls and a list of universities comes up - just looked and at least 2 drama schools on there

Ah yes, good point. She has applied to collegiate halls - there are about 12 rooms so we don't hold out much hope! If that does work out it would be perfect...😀

Just thought I'd put a conclusion on this thread in case anyone has the same problem in future - in that they need to find private student halls of residence in London. Obvs the earlier you start looking the better! However, we did manage to secure a small, grotty room without en suite for £250 per week but put her name down on a lot of cancellation lists. She did get regular emails informing her of cancellations but invariably they had gone by the time she responded. Happily, she eventually got one with en suite in a better area and less travel, with en suite for £240 per week, and sacked the other one. I do think there would be a fair few cancellations around A-level results day too, but glad got sorted before then. A happy (but expensive) ending.

My DN 'lost' her London halls when she didn't make her grades then got a place at another London uni through clearing and found new halls in the week after results so as a PP said quite a a lot of movement after results day. She's had a brilliant year in aaa inter collegiate hall and is now moving to share a house with 3 friends for her second year.
