Liverpool Uni

Could anyone with 'children' at Liverpool uni (or who went there within the last 10 years) give my DS some advice on the different halls of residence please? He's relaxed about whether it's self catered or not, but wants a central city location. He's very sociable.

Crown place, vine court or philharmonic are on campus, also Melville grove but it’s shared bathroom. If he wants to be more city centre there’s plenty of private - grand central or high horizon are right on lime street

@TheWitchCirce Liverpool is not known for cheap university hall accommodation. I know a DD who was in Melville. Happy with it snd it’s possibly the cheapest. Shared bathrooms keeps the cost down.

The bigger issue was y2 when a house share student’s mother objected to the location of the house and the DD moved out. Left the others with insufficient people. After a lot of stress, another house share person was found but some parents are sniffy about some areas!

DD was in Crown Place for her first year. She thoroughly enjoyed it.

TheWitchCirce · 06/05/2023 07:26

Thank you - it seems like Crown Place is coming up a lot IRL too so I think we will look there. Luckily the cost is not the primary concern but shared bathroom would be fine. (Just hoping that washing is still a thing when young adult males leave home.).

DD headed out to uni 2 years ago and made all the decisions herself, DS is so laid back he's horizontal and I only realised this week that he didn't even know that booking your accommodation was a thing.🙄

My DS is going there this year anx has opted for green bank because although it’s further out it’s a student type village with great facilities - was recommended it by a friend who had been there - think it’s home to 1300 students
he’s been offered his place there for this year

BigVaseofTulips · 06/05/2023 20:52

My nephew chose Greenbank - it’s where most first years live and popular with sporty types as courts/pitches are right there

RedHelenB · 06/05/2023 20:57

There is private halls too that are city centre. Mostly populated by John Moore s but also have uni of Liverpool students too
Accommodation is quite expensive at Greenbank once you add the bus pass to get to uni. Housing in 2nd and 3rd years though is very cheap.

Swanhilde · 06/05/2023 20:59

DD has opted for Crown Place first. Friend's DD currently lives in Greenbank and loves it, but my DD wanted to be more central.

BigVaseofTulips · 07/05/2023 00:36

Btw all Leicester accommodation is self-catered as of this year. Bus pass from Greenbank now free - included in rental - I believe. If your DC plays team sports (requiring pitch or court) definitely Greenbank. Plus most second/third year housing is in Greenbank area so it’s a good way to get used to the area. Different strokes for different folks but most freshers go to Greenbank and love it

BigVaseofTulips · 07/05/2023 00:37

Liverpool not Leicester - that’s a typing fail!

TheWitchCirce · 08/05/2023 11:36

Thank you, he's opted for Crown Place 1st and Melville 2nd. He absolutely wrote off Greenbank, so his options are now in. He just needs to pass some A'levels now.

My DS starts this year. Opted for Crown Place. We visited it at open day and it looks good. As a laid back sports player, no doubt he'll be out to Greenbank enough times to get used to area out there for 2nd/3rd year. Plus Greenbank is so expensive, bus pass or not.

hellsbells99 · 11/05/2023 18:16

DD chose to live in the Kensington Fields area in her 2nd and 3rd years. Just opposite the hospital and 10 minutes walk from the university.
