York Uni vs Bath for Pol/Econ

Hi all,
My ds has received offers from Bath and York unis for politics and econ and just wanted to hear from you if you have any advice/info. Ds as yet unsure which one will go down as his firm choice. Went to offer holder days for both. Ds doesn't seem to be leaning one way or the other for now, though dh and I were impressed with both. Just looking to hear from anyone with any thoughts on this. Would help massively.
Thanks in advance.

The campus is much nicer at York - much more open space etc - whilst this is only a small thing, for me, having open space around was really important to my enjoyment of my courses.

Bath is on a hill in acres of green space. Have you not been?

Interesting viewpoint regarding open space as I think they’re pretty similar in that regard. Is your DS any closer to making a decision @vexedillologist DD has firmed Bath (AAB) and insured York (ABB). The two 6 month placement option at Bath is a huge draw for her (BSc Business). But both are great options.

I have been to both campuses recently. Bath felt tight, very heavily developed. York is much less dense, and has a huge lake in the middle, providing lots of attractive walks between buildings.

York and Bath are both relatively compact towns where its fairly easy to get out into the surrounding countryside - I wasn't meaning access to that, I was meaning within the campus. York feels as though there's space around the buildings, space between the buildings, space to breathe - not sure that that's the case for most of the Bath campus.

However, this is just my impression as someone that deals with the built-environment on a daily basis.

We visited York, Bath, Surrey and Essex. All had lakes. Obviously, a university thing!
Most impressive lake probably Surrey, of this list...

Piggywaspushed · 07/05/2023 13:21

Must say, as fans of both universities, I objectively agree about Bath. We knew there was a lake but we didn't see it on the campus tour. The buildings are clustered together more tightly than at York so, in that respect, York feels more spacious and airy. It feels more identified by its lake.

But I liked Bath's more compact nature, too.

Thanks all.
@W0tnow My ds does History, Politics, Maths, predicted A*AA
@mistlethrush @Piggywaspushed Yes we did feel that about the campus. York did have a lot of green space, trees etc around the lake which was quite nice, Whereas Bath was a lot more compact, and less green space
@NotDonna Ds hasn't decided yet as of now. Bath placements did seem good, though York was pretty similar too.
