Exeter Offer Holder Day Yesterday

DS received his offer from Exeter on Friday - too late to attend their final OHD on Saturday.

For those who attended yesterday, do you have any feedback?

Good points ?
Bad points ?
DC more/less encouraged to accept ?

We're going to visit in 2 weeks time and have booked a campus tour, but just thought I'd look for additional input from others.

DC is putting it down as insurance. It was first choice after the open day but it slipped to insurance after the offer holder day which was a bit disappointing. The lecture wasn't great and the course content isn't quite what he'd hoped. Not keen on the compulsory dissertation either.

Campus is beautiful and there is a good range of accommodation (although its on the pricier side). Plus the town is also lovely. We went out at night and it was buzzing and felt really safe. We didn't even realise until the offer holder day that there is also a nightclub on campus (as well as the pub in the SU).

For those who missed offer holder day they are doing online offer holder sessions. I know there was one on Tuesday for DC's course since they logged on to get some additional information.

DC is independent school and felt very comfortable there but I don't think it was so "rah" that it would put off state school kids (I'm state school educated).

It’s a lovely campus and next to a great town with enough to do. Probably the nicest we visited.

There is a misapprehension on this website that all privately educated kids are rich or ‘rah’ which is ridiculous. None of the schools round here in London are like Eton in any way. At least half the intakes are kids who went to state primaries. All my DDs friends are a mix of private and state kids, all mix fine and there are no obvious differences. I’m sure even places like Eton have nice students. Privilege doesn’t equate to being vile except in the world of politics.

Yes, "even" Eton has nice pupils, shock horror

Really??? Which university provides out of term storage? I don’t know of any (Honest question, not trying to be flippant).

The halls I stayed in as an undergrad did. But it was a halls-specific thing. It was in the loft of the building. A friend’s hall at another uni had a basement room for similar use.

Dd was privately educated but says the most 'rah' students are the middle class grammar kids who are given pots of money by their parents.

Just finished our day trip to Exeter.

Very impressed with both the city and the university campus. DS making positive noises too - says he prefers the campus and how everything is within easy walking distance, and that he'd rather live there than Bristol.

Up there with Durham as first choice now - that's if Durham ever come back with an offer 🙂

Glad you enjoyed your visit to Exeter @bguthb90 Fingers crossed that your DS gets an offer from Durham as both unis are great. DD also really liked Durham but ultimately her heart was always with Exeter.
