Hi, DS wants to tutor A level and GCSE maths, physics and chemistry to a group of children in the neighbourhood on a voluntary basis. He is on a gap year before starting university in September and scored A stars in these subjects. Can anyone recommend books or videos that can help him get started with teaching on a 1:1 basis?

I think he’s going to struggle. Most parents will want a tutor at A level who is experienced in A level syllabus, papers and marking/ mark schemes. He might have more do better advertising to the younger year groups who just need some maths or science help.

That’s a great idea. At our school students can be selected to do this.
He should probably dig out his old notes and get some study guides and get cracking. It’s likely largely to be explaining to students how to answer questions - exam technique. Also helping then to understand topics they have not done well in.

thanks @Flowersinmai . Yes, that's the plan at the moment, to help anyone who wants support. At university we have peer support groups and mentoring, with those who did well supporting others. Its so effective. Not sure if this sort of thing is available for those who just finished their A Levels and are happy to share their knowledge and experience. Sometimes peers are much better at understanding issues and supporting with technique and material.
