Good evening

We have been thrown a curveball today when we found out that Y13 dd is now only able to achieve a D on Eduqas coursework... she is usually an A grade on exams etc. We have found out that the different sections have been marked as they have produced them and they are all basically quite shit, and that is me being kind. I am not excusing her failure to talk to us and she knows that BUT, I am confused as to why college have not dealt with the grade discrepancies sooner and informed us.

So, is it usual to mark the different sections as they go along? Is it possible to revisit sections following feedback from the teacher? Is there anything we can do to rectify the situation?

She has the final evaluation section to submit next week, so knows that this has to be perfect in order to at least get a D for this 20% of her course. Additionally, we have roughly calculated that she'd need A star on her exams to at least try 5o get an A - heruni place is now in jeopardy!

Any advice or rolling of eyes gratefully received...

Sorry your DD is in this situation. All you can really do now is support her: stress is the enemy. Can you afford a tutor? Someone she can really relate to, who is also competent, could be an enormous help in this situation.

was she told the grades for each section as she went along?

When you say you have just found out, I presume she knew she was submitting coursework and getting grades for it? Consult the eduqas website and see that the process has been followed correctly.

My ds's coursework hasn't been marked as he goes along. He is due to hand it in shortly when it will all be marked at once.

She needs to speak to her teacher - surely it would have been made clear to her that it would be marked as she went along? I guess it makes sense to the teacher so they don't have so much to mark all in one go, but only if the students realise this! Has she not been getting the grades for each section as she went? Or has she just buried her head in the sand? If she can redo it does she have time?

I think it's a case of speaking to the teacher and seeing if anything can be done.

Same with us, but I think it's a different exam board. Still causing huge amounts of stress in our house at the moment trying to get it finished!

The issue here isn't really when it was marked, but that OP's DC's coursework is a lower standard than her other work.
Surely they told her? Do you have reports/parents' evening? I wouldn't really expect the college to do much else.

More interestingly is why the coursework is only a D if her exams are an A ... or maybe her exams aren't really at A standard either?

Can she redo the whole thing? The marks haven't been submitted to the exam board yet so you need an urgent meeting with the 6th form and suggest she spends the next week reworking the whole NEA. They need to advise her how to improve it too.
