LJMU grade classification

Does anyone know how the LJMU grade classifications work?

I achieved 64% in year one and 69% in year two but my grades have picked up massively in year three.

Could anyone help me work out what classification I'm on track to achieve please?

Year one my grades where:
Module one: 100%
Module two: 66%
Module three: 82%
Module four: 54%
Module five: 53%

Year two:
Module one: 100%
Module two: 97%
Module three: 52%
Module four: 52%
Module five: 73%

Year 3 (so far)
Module one: 88%
Module two: 80%

From this, does anyone know if I'm on track for a 2:1?

I would like to do a masters, so
I'm just trying to find out what I need to achieve in my upcoming modules to make sure I end up in a position to be able to apply for one

Smile thanks for reading, I'm a mature student and this is all confusing to me. FWIW it's a nursing degree

It’ll depend on the weight of each module/how many credits are attached to each module. You should have some guidance in your course handbook?

Cookerhood · 14/03/2023 12:27

It should all be on the university website. Often year 1 doesn't count towards the final degree, just need to be passed to progress, but that may not be the case here.

I figured it out, I used gradeshub. I'd asked my mentor but hadn't heard back but sorted now, thank you for replies Smile

Id say 2:1 at least

Take your grades from level 5 and 6. Put them into a uni grade calculator. Weighting is important to consider. 69.6 is a first at LJMU.

Looks like you're very close to, if not already on track for a first. The modules in the 50s may be where you slightly miss it but again, depends on the weighting.

69.6 is a first at LJMU.

It's a 2.1 everywhere else. You need 70%+ for a first.

bottleofbeer · 11/04/2023 10:21

Any uni that rounds it up to the next 1% would call 69.6 a first.

Ljmu is absolutely not the only one to do it.

RampantIvy · 11/04/2023 10:23

My daughter's university doesn't round up percentages, so a 69.6% is a 2.1.

NerrSnerr · 11/04/2023 10:25

Many years ago at the University of Birmingham I got 59.6% and was awarded a 2:1.

bottleofbeer · 11/04/2023 10:41

Depends on the uni doesn't it? I actually think it's worse. Imagine getting 69.5? 😁

My daughter's university doesn't round up percentages, so a 69.6% is a 2.1.

There's probably a second preponderance calculation where there is a near miss. I can't think of any uni that doesn't have that tbh.

My daughter's university doesn't round up percentages, so a 69.6% is a 2.1.

Nor did DD2's. Anything under 70% is not rounded up to give a First, it's a 2:1.

FWIW DD2 did the same subject as @RampantIvy's though at a different university, so maybe it's the subject rather than the university which is strict?

RampantIvy · 11/04/2023 14:10

It's not just biomed, but all the degrees in that department anyway - genetics, pharmacology and other related degrees.

GlitteryFarts · 11/04/2023 14:38

I don't know if it still applies but when I attended LJMU almost a decade ago they discounted the lowest module scoring completely...that might have been course exclusive and we may have done an extra module to account for it but worth checking out.

bottleofbeer · 12/04/2023 16:22

No, they don't drop the lowest graded modules any longer.

Origamiheaven · 23/04/2023 10:48

This will depend on the University. I teach on an undergraduate course. The classification where I work is calculated taking an average of year 2 marks and this makes up 30% of the final percent, then the average of year 3 marks that makes up 70%. Year 1 is not used but obviously needs to be passed for progression

RampantIvy · 23/04/2023 12:24

DD's university took an average of year 2 marks to make up 30% of the final grade as well.
