Hi all. There seems to be very little about this uni on any of the threads. I appreciate it's not RG or high status, but does anyone have any information/thoughts to share on what it's like in reality? DD is really drawn to it (for geography) as she loves how small it is, which is something the uni really plays on as an advantage. It's also not too far from home. DD is very shy and thinks this might suit her best. I'm concerned it might limit her options. She has offers from Newcastle, Southampton, Cardiff and Northumbria as well, but I can see she's leaning towards Worcester. Of course, it's entirely up to her, but some insider knowledge would be fab!

It’s a great Uni, I did a PG there, after UG at a RG. The staff are really committed and are brilliant with students. Great city too- I stayed. Been here 20 years now and the Uni is growing year by year. They’re opening a new medical school this year.
Uni is also very high up in some league tables for graduate employment.
It’s small but also big enough to get a good mix of social life and study.

I reckon I have visited more than half of UK universities for work and in doing so have got a read on the atmosphere and the attitude of the staff. I agree with the previous poster, Worcester is one of the better ones in my opinion. The smaller ones often are friendlier and the support from the institution is normally more personal.

Wow, @WineNoMore20 and @Tearsofgravy that is exactly what I needed to hear, thank you! It was the first uni we visited for open day, and before we really knew what we are looking for. We are re-visiting for offer holders' day in a couple of weeks, so DD will be able to see if she still loves it as much as she thinks she does!

My Daughter went to Worcester University. The station being right in the town centre was very handy. Although obviously trains are difficult at the moment.
She enjoyed her time there and still lives in and works in Worcester. Graduation was lovely in the cathedral.

Flooding is a big problem in Worcester by the river but it's beautiful when it's not raining.
We come from a very small market town and it was just enough to be the bright lights of the city without being too big.
Some Uni accommodation is very good but some is a bit tatty.
Good private accommodation for the second year is hard to get so you need to sort that as soon as possible.
When it's not on strike Worcester has a great regular train service to Birmingham. There is a good bus service. Town. Centre traffic is a nightmare but parking on the edge of town is fairly easy.
It has all the chain shops and restaurants you need mixed with some lovely local businesses.
The last few months were disrupted and ended abruptly due to Covid but the Uni did their best to get them graduated and we had the ceremony 12 months later.
If you are likely to be visiting regularly their is quite a bit of reasonably priced accommodation.

Hope this helps.

@Annie1962 thank you for all this information. My DD definitely favours a quieter town. We are an hour away on the cotswold train line, which also works for her. We've got an offer holders' day this Saturday, so we will go by train and check out the walking. Any halls you'd recommend/ suggest we avoid?

Sorry, I haven't been in the other accommodation but I have seen some bad reviews of a few. There should be an opportunity to speak to existing students on Saturday so ask them about where they recommend to be nearer that course.
She was in City Campus which was big, light and modern but not cheap. Try and make sure she has a flat that has a good communal seating area. Much easier to make friends.
Hope it goes well.

@Annie1962 Thanks - we will grill students on Saturday!

I forgot to say. If you check out YouTube there are a lot of videos of Uni of Worcester campus, town and accommodation.

@Annie1962 thank you, good tip. Good to know your daughter enjoyed it,
