Do many third year students come home to study and finish dissertations?

Is it common for third year students (if they have no lectures that week for example) to come home to study where they're fed and it's quieter than shared accommodation?
Student in question has no lectures owing to various trips and strikes so would like to be home not on noisy shared uni accommodation but going back for next lecture which is due take place.

I guess there's no reason they shouldn't but it does suggest they might be unhappy there, or feeling the pinch financially.

Ds in final year is not coming back until Easter, but he is happy in his house, has a girlfriend he also lives with and sporting stuff going on so he would not come home. He would be more than welcome if he needed it and i see no issue if peace is needed to do work.

I did this when I was studying! I loved university and my housemates but sometimes I just needed to get my head into my books with no distractions and enjoyed being in a more clean, warm, comfortable environment with my parents looking after me! I mostly did it in the couple of weeks revision period just before exams, (when all my friends were quite intensely studying and not much socialising was going on anyway). Not many others did it though... I'm not sure why as it was great! This just indicates to me that your DC feels calm and supported at home, and cares about their studies 😊

Thanks, I think it's mostly as the Accomodation is quite noisy

Why wouldn't they?
DC stayed on for a couple of weeks after Xmas to do timed essays (in lieu of exams). It's a no brainer - quiet, warm(ish!), full fridge and dinner cooked for you.
For my DC this is their home, they are welcome to treat it as such at anytime and for any reason.

My final-year student daughter is currently at home for "reading" week, and is video-chatting with her university housemates every evening.

DD is currently home for “reading week”! And all her housemates went home too

have LOVED IT!

normal - and lovely!

Mine did! It was lovely having her back and she was able to concentrate without any distractions.

Ds1 didn't come home. He's finished university now. He wasn't far away either. I guess it depends how close to home they are. Nothing wrong with it as long as they are happy. It is nice that she wants to be home.

Ds2 is first year student, most of his housemates are going home every weekend, something that ds1's housemates didn't do. Not sure how common that is. Ds doesn't want to come home. He says he might stay there on his own over Easter. He says he likes the peace and quiet and the empty library 😞
