Dd is studying PE, Psychology and RS A levels and doing an EPQ. She's keen to study sports science. Any experiences? She mentioned Loughborough and Bath who both require A star AA, which may be a stretch. 🤔 She plays sport to a high level but doesn't want to be a teacher...

So many universities and colleges offer this now, the truth is that some students will succeed in terms of their chosen job snd others won’t. It’s inevitable. So choosing the best academic degree is probably a better route to earnings. Also just because you can do a post grad means nothing. Still got to get a job! Countless students do not necessarily do better with a masters!

I don't really understand your post?

I hired a Sports Science graduate from Bath for a Graduate Data Analyst role. They interned at a football club as part of the degree and did say there was a fair bit of data crunching on the course. They’ve thrived, been one of our high performers and have had several promotions.

That's great. I know there's a lot of maths in a sports science degree

They learned all the necessary programming and statistics skills on a Sports Science degree?

You definitely learn statistics. Programming I doubt but you don't have to be a programmer to be a data analyst trainee.

What’s she planning to do with this degree if she doesn’t want to be a teacher? It’s not much use for anything else.

Its the degree my oldest did and he is earning over 6 figures in IT/Fintech recruitment. He has done ok. There are many jobs that just require education to a degree level.

This will blow your mind - there are even lawyers and accountants with Sports Science degrees.

The only people I know with sport science degrees are the ones who didn’t get into physio on the first try and decided to go for a sports science degree and a physio masters/second undergrad degree. But I’m an OT and know a lot of physios so my perspective is a bit skewed.

if it’s definitely that she wants to do the she should go for it. I’m sure there’s plenty of interesting careers out there which it could lead into. My dd is doing physio, but is more interested in the respiratory side of things than MSK so science wouldn’t be for her.

Friend’s son is doing at Bath and having a great time. On a year out with a league 1 football club this year and enjoying working.
That said I do think it’s very competitive to get into a related career at the end.
Would definitely look at the unis that actively do year in industry. And I would ask what % of their students get placements who want them. Varies widely between unis and courses.
