My DD is trying to decide between the two for Primary Ed, we've visited both but would be interested in everybody's experiences.

Cost of living will be way lower in Chichester. Very different vibe between the 2 locations, Chichester in the country, low key nightlife etc vs everything London can offer.

Chichester has a longstanding reputation for BEd.

Hobbi · 18/02/2023 15:54

I don't think they offer B Ed. Not many places do.

Piggywaspushed · 18/02/2023 16:10

Yes, I meant for education. They used to be one of the highest regarded BEd places.

Which campus for university of Greenwich as the living costs thing won’t apply if it’s the Medway campus .

Did my PGCE at Greenwich, campus was around Wapping. Most of the teaching was very poor quality and we were left to our own devices an awful lot to work in groups while tutor did other tasks....I had already done a C and G 7307 so it was just a short conversion course but would have left if it had been the whole course there. plus area is a bit desolate, not much going on...a few pubs. one tutor was excellent but i wouldn't vouch for it based on my experience.

Greenwich is a nice place to study - the halls of res are in a place called Avery Hill a few miles away so students are bussed in and out of the Greenwich teaching site. Is the teaching site elsewhere though (Medway?).

Looking at the details on the University of Greenwich website, the course is based at Avery Hill (which is where one would sort of expect, if anything is still based there, since Avery Hill was originally a teacher training college, before it became part of the university).

Thanks so much for your input - I think your responses have confirmed that my DD has made the right decision. We visited both Unis on their Open Days and my DD loved both. When she went back for interviews Chichester felt the same and had the same great atmosphere as the Open Day but Greenwich felt like a Sixth Form college and was really unorganised. She's firmed Chichester and I'm excited for her - it just felt right, so thank you!
