DS has an offer from nearby university, BBC but in prospectus states BBC-CCC

Would he still get a place with a lower grade or not?

Don't worry the uni will have checked whether your ds qualifies or not. You don't need to make a special request or apply for a contextual offer

OK thanks

When I checked our postcode it comes up with 'not enough pupils at key stage 4' to tell participation?

The fact that they have given him a standard offer suggests that he isn't eligible for contextual. I only asked if you had been expecting to get a contextual offer because you seemed surprised to get a standard one. You don't need to check this info because the university will have checked already, and there is nothing in any of your posts that suggests that an error has been made.

I think I have misunderstood that the CCC grades are for contextual offers. Thanks for clarifying.

It does vary from uni to uni. Dd got a contextual offer from Bristol, but not from Warwick but went to Warwick anyway.

When I applied via UCAs back in the 1990s think it was just a set grade not a range.

It still isn't a range. It is a set offer but what it is set at depends on your circumstances.

Sometimes for competitive places they can be set at an offer higher than the typical or standard offers .

So it sounds like they got the standard offer.

Ok thanks it is all just new to me as i remember the days when it was a set grade required for everyone and things have changed.

I don't understand, if the range is BBC to CCC, why would a BBC offer be a surprise?

I was also wondering this.

My dc's offer for was a lot higher than what was on their website - Universities look at applicant's school and background and offer accordingly. And some applicants get rejected despite being predicted 4 A.
