Scottish Maintenance Loan 23-24

Do any of you Scottish MN-ers know if the SAAS loan will be increasing for a academic year 23/24? We currently get the minimum £5100 which we put towards the accommodation fees in halls. It obviously falls short of the total amount we pay and we already know the hall fees will rise by about £250 this year.

Our student is looking at private rental for next academic year so our costs are going to increase a lot and they'll be self-catering so will need money for food AND bills (which were obvs included in catered halls) They've got a job so will help out and it looks like they'll get a Sept-May rental so not the full 12 month whack (thank goodness!)

Just need to know exactly how short we're going to be!

I have only seen an announcement about increasing fee loan for postgraduates Perhaps they are going to extend the rent freeze and keep the SAAS minimum at £5100.

Be good to know whether they'll freeze or increase the minimum loan amount . My student has found accommodation but Landlord wants paying quarterly and the first payment falls due a week before we receive a penny from SAAS. We got a double payment for the first month in their 1st year but even if the landlord could wait till that came through, we'd still be a month short (plus we're having to make up the shortfall between the total 9 months rent and the total amount of loan we receive for the academic year.)

Anyone else have students going into private rental and being expected to pay 3 months in advance and quarterly thereafter? I've only ever experienced paying rent on a monthly basis.

One of mine had a landlord who asked for 6 months in advance. However this was first graduate job and his relocation payment covered.

DD has only ever paid one month in advance for student accommodation. Can you provide your contribution to your DC upfront?. As your DC gets the minimum you are expected to make up to maximum (approx £3000 contribution pa). I know lots of parents can't afford to help or can't afford to give lump sum in advance. DDs friends in this situation usually work full time during summer to get the deposit together/use interest free overdrafts until their SAAS comes thru.
