Longer beds in uni halls for taller students?

When I was a student 30 years ago, at Liverpool Uni, I remember some halls had long single beds (203cm rather than the standard 190cm) for taller students. This September, my son, who is 6' 3" (190.5cm) will be starting at a London Uni, in an inter-collegiate hall. Is a longer bed something that is reasonable to ask for? The booking form only enabled special requests for disabilities, and mentioned nothing about the availability of longer beds. Does anyone have any experience of this?

Ds is 6ft3in and is fine in a standard double at home which is 190cm, but the extra width, perhaps helps with comfort. If he needs it could he try a Bed extender which would give him an extra 15cm.

My daughter's hall of residence room last year had a longer length single bed as standard, they were all the same, 3ft wide and 6ft 9 long, it was a newer hall of residence (not London). Definitely worth enquiring about.

My ds has just applied for halls and one of the possible preferences listed under additional needs was a longer bed.

Mention his height in the special requirements field, they may be able to get him a longer bed.

No help to you at all, but all US college dorm beds are extra long. Saves a lot of bother.
