University halls deposit

Dd is off to Sussex University and I have asked if there is a deposit to pay on her room in halls. Dd is known for sounding certain sure about something even when she doesn’t know and hasn’t read the relevant information so I wanted to double check.
is there usually a deposit to pay for rooms in halls?

Yes, usually due when you accept the room.

I mean, I don't know Sussex specifically but there has been with every student I am aware of at half a dozen different universities and I've never heard of one where there isn't.

We've paid a deposit for halls at Brighton Uni. Email with halls offer came though last sat and deposit had to be paid within 3 days.

My ds going to bournemouth and we had to pay £250 to secure room , which comes off first payment

UEA, unless they have introduced them for 2022.

We checked with the accommodation office and dd is right, no deposit

No deposit for Bristol either unless postgrad.

None for my DC

Because the university refers to confer a degree if any money is owing to the university, and that's considered sufficient incentive to cough up (fees to be paid termly in the first week)

That's a pretty normal arrangement for university owned halls.

Deposits are frequently required for halls run by other providers, even when those providers are in a close partnership with the university (as I believe universities cannot to confer degrees for debts to third parties)

No, none at UEA
