Do photocopies of A Level scripts include the marking?

My DS was 3 marks off a grade boundary in one of his subjects (Economics) and would like to get photocopies of the scripts. His school have said they can arrange this for a few pounds per script. If he gets them, will they be photocopies before marking (so without the examiner's markup) or after (so he can see how many marks were given per question and tot them up to make sure they're correct)?

I am not sure what the point would be. Your ds will not be able to judge whether he should have got more points or not as he will not have the skill of the examiner who had the knowledge and the mark scheme.

The question should be what difference will it make?
Is he missing out on a place as he got a lower grade?

With the marks.

BadGranny · 18/08/2022 19:19

Yes.

Thanks Azandme. Definitely worth it. We know someone whose GCSE grade was put up from 8 to 9 after they spotted a clerical error in the paper. And in case, he'd like the paper as a memento.

It's free, I think. Which exam board is it? If Edexcel the school can just log in and take a look straight away.

Papers are usually marked electronically so would not have examiner's marks recorded on them if a copy was requested.

itrytomakemyway · 18/08/2022 19:32

All papers are marked online - there will be no comments on them. You could ask for a clerical check to make sure it has been added up correctly, but again this is all done online so much less risk of clerical errors like that these days.

BadGranny · 18/08/2022 19:34

Electronic marking - examiners annotate scripts using marking software. The print-out (usually a pdf) includes the examiners’ annotations and the marks awarded for each question.

itrytomakemyway · 18/08/2022 19:34

Or you could request a remark. This is pretty expensive - and bear in mind that marks also run the risk of being moved down.

itrytomakemyway · 18/08/2022 19:36

Even with the drop down annotations you will probably find that the examiner has not used them, just put a mark on it online.

Yes, more like £60, and grade could go up or down (though unlikely as he's near the upper boundary). It's worth getting the script first to see if it's worth it. And, as I said, he would like it anyway, as a memento.

I don't think it works like that. I don't think you can have the script first before deciding to get it remarked - I will stand corrected if anyone knows more up to date rules.

If he is hoping for a higher grade for a uni place then you would need a priority remark - very expensive.

I know the rules. His school have been very efficient in pre-emptively sending them out. It just wasn't clear whether it would be the marked or unmarked paper.

Thanks to those that have clarified this.
