Birmingham uni - car parking during Commonwealth Games?

I need to bring my son to an all-day event at Birmingham Uni connected to the Commonwealth Games. I can see there is no public parking there during the games, but no alternative is suggested on the uni website, and the CWG travel planner is no help either. I am happy to park and ride from a reasonable distance - we'll be travelling from London and need to be there by around 10.30am. Any suggestions?

Tfwm website will have guides available. If it’s uni of Birmingham, find a residential street nearby or if BCU then it’s just outside the city centre and can walk from the train station.

Why not get a train from London to Birmingham and then a train to the University station.

They are trying to minimise car travel

I would head to train station on the cross city line, most have big car parks you could park there and get the train to University station, the uni is right outside the station. Trains run every 10-15 mins on that line.

Although be aware if it’s the 26th or 30th you’re going they’re both rail strike days

There's parking at selly oak station and that's one stop from the university, but also easily walked.

I think the organisers are operating various shuttle buses, you need to use the games journey planner to see where they're picking up from.

I agree with what others are saying (i.e. park near another station on the cross-city line and get the train to University) but the drawback is that it is an obvious solution. What if everybody else is doing it, too, and there are no parking spaces?

What about a 'park on my drive' solution? You know that you are guaranteed a space then.

The various station car parks on the cross city line used to fill up by 7.45 but since covid they always seem to have spaces. Longbridge has a multi story for £3 a day (14 mins to uni), Northfield, Kings Norton and Selly Oak all have free car parks (not sure about Bournville as I’ve never parked there).
