Year 2+ rental costs for UCL or other Bloomsbury uni?

DC has firmed UCL for September 2022. I understand the Y1 hall costs, but would like to estimate the Y2+ costs for private rental in shared accommodation, within 20mins commute. How much do your DC's pay per month and where do they live?

£780/month plus bills. But paid for 12 months, well, 48 months.
Student accommodation first year is usually shorter contract

20 mins commute for inner london is a bit optimistic.
going to be v expensive i'd think.
why not go farther out and have more choice and bit cheaper.
there are lots of private student hostels now, all over.

Mine has signed for £825 pm in Camden for 2nd year but it includes heating/hot water but not other bills. Also a years contract so she's planning on staying and working next summer hols instead of coming home.

DD lived in Camden for Y2 & Y3 when at UCL - walk was about 20-25 mins and I'm sure there are buses for a quicker commute. Quite a lot of her friends seemed to live in a similar area. DD's flat had 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, one of which was ensuite and this friend paid more for her room.

She shared with 2 others - think it was in the region of £800 pm for her. Contracts were for 12 months which suited the 3 of them fine - well until Covid and lockdown.

Expensive yes but good quality flats available

This is the Imperial suggested living costs budget, it's based on a student survey of what their students actually spend:

www.imperial.ac.uk/study/ug/fees-and-funding/managing-your-money/living-costs/

The costs should be the same. As PPs have said, Camden seems to be where the UCL students head for Y2. Rent might be marginally cheaper in Camden than Hammersmith, where the Imperial students tend to live.

Don't rely on being able to negotiate a contract with a break clause, they are hard to come by. They will probably be tied in to a 12 month contract so budget for that.
