Bournemouth Uni - Belaton House. Anyone had a DC living there?

DS is off to Bournemouth in September after a year of working, post A levels.

I trusted him to book his accommodation himself, which has resulted in it not being done properly. That’s to say, he didn’t complete the process, and has nothing. So this weekend we were trying to book halls. The only place we seemed to be able to get was Belaton House. It looks lovely, was built only a couple of years ago, has some great looking facilities but is also is over our budget. However, we’ve booked it and will find a way to afford it.

I’ve looked at the student reviews online subsequently and they aren’t great, and I’ve yet to find any positive reviews. Wondered if anyone has any first hand experience of their DC living in Belaton House which they could share with me.

TIA

I do not have a DC at Belaton House but have worked in the nearby Lansdowne business area for 20+ years. It is across the road from the train and bus station plus a large ASDA and there are some student clubs up the road. However the reason why it is probably the only accommodation left is because of its location. It is next to a busy roundabout and in an area which has a bad reputation locally (several halfway houses nearby and the resident congregate in the area). He should be aware of his personal safety when he leaves the block and I recommend only use the underpass at night if in a group.

Thanks @Dove0709 thats interesting…
it is however one of the most expensive halls, so I thought that that was the reason why it was still available.
DS has been brought up in a city, and he’s not completely naive. He knows not to use underpasses late at night and our city centre can be ‘interesting’ after dark. He’s been working this year and many of his shifts have finished late, so he often walks home alone.
