Should I retrain & change career @ 31?

Let me start by saying I've naturally dropped into my current career. It's 100% corporate. The money is good, £60/70k with more achievable. BUT....

I don't enjoy it, at all. It's boring. Soul destroyingly so. I do it purely for the money, but the more time goes on, that simply isn't enough.

I want a fulfilling job. I want to go to University and do either Diagnostic Radiology or Primary Education with QTS. This gives me fulfilment of helping others, whilst allowing me to continue with a mixture of some office work and an element of practical work (which I really, really want)

I can't see myself staring at Microsoft excel for the next 30 years.

Am I totally crazy to give up my job for 3 years and go back to Uni? I have support from DP and with their salary and my student maintenance we would be "comfortable" - obviously a big adjustment but we have very affordable bills. We have a baby due soon and I think it's probably now or never.

Should I just bloody go for it?!

Go for it! Although I retrained and then had the baby.....you only live once, if you've got the support then do it.

Thank you! Baby due in weeks so no options there 🤣🤣 it's my partner that is having baby though x

Go for it! Based on the Excel comment, unless you are a super high flying genius, you are going to be replaced by some form of IT/AI way before retirement.

I dumped accountancy after 8 years and have travelled a varied but not high earning path. Much more fun.

Just make sure that all your studying doesn't leave your partner being the only one juggling the baby and presumably work after maternity leave! That way massive resentment lies especially if they will ultimately be supporting you whilst you study.

Yes - you are still very young. Do switch. I’d try before you buy though - once the baby is 6 months do some teaching assistant work to see if you really want that. Radiography more difficult but at least talk to some NHS friends. These are two quite different careers so I would also. Get some career advice before you jump, so you consider other options. I get the feeling you are running away from something not to it.

The advice to really plan it w your partner is good too.

What do you perceive as the 'element of office work' in primary teaching?
