Concern about Bath accommodation as insurance choice

Hello

DD has accepted a challenging firm offer at Warwick, with Bath as her insurance.

Bath won't accept applications for accommodation from insurance place holders, so if she ends up going there we would be in the scramble for a room post-results. My concern is that DD has autism and has applied only to campus universities as she struggles with organisation and anxiety. From what I've read online Bath has very limited rooms on campus and there seems to be a real risk she would be placed in the city, leaving her to deal with transport to lectures etc. I think this would be difficult for her to cope with in the first year away from home.

Is it realistic to hope that any special consideration would be made for DD in finding her a room on campus? If so how would we go about this and is it worth contacting someone in advance in case this happens?

Thanks

Contact the Disability Service at Bath and they will advise you.

Has she applied for DSA? Her needs assessment can flag accommodation too

DD has firmed Bath for this year and I know accommodation is allocated on results day. It looks like you can fill in an additional requirements form but yes you're right she would'nt be guaranteed a room. I guess space is limited and they would offer to those who have already firmed. From their website -

Late applications
If you miss the guarantee deadline, we are unable to guarantee you a room.

The waiting list opens on 19 August. You can send us your Additional Requirements Form in advance of making your online application.

If over 16 it would be PIP that they would need.

It's DSA for students and is specific support/equipment to facilitate learning. PIP is entirely different.

Bath is known to be 'autism friendly' so an email to their disability services and accommodation services asking what their advise would be should she end up applying late for accommodation might be useful.

Thanks all for taking the time to reply. Yes DD has applied for DSA but no appointment yet for assessment. I didn’t realise that accommodation needs can be included in their recommendations so that may be helpful.

I will contact the Disability team at Bath as suggested and ask for their advice.

I would say that Bath have a fair amount of campus accommodation. They do have rooms on campus that are reserved for disabled students, so definitely worth raising with the disability team.
