DD has an unconditional offer for history of art , time is running out for her to decide. ( she’s been accepted on all her choices so it’s hard) . Obviously very prestigious and THE place to study h of art . But …. she is state school educated , we are aware that she could be in a minority there but actually I think it will prove similar wherever she studies history of art. However, if she were at another university she would obviously be amongst a broader range of students on other courses from different backgrounds. Can anyone inform of the student social life Courtauld? Think I read that they can access UCL’s facilities- does this actually happen?

DD went. She liked the 'homely' atmosphere as only 400 or so students in total. Got to know students in other years that she thinks she would not have done at a bigger university.
She joined clubs in KCl and UCL and met people when she did her compulsory language course at LSE. Also joined yoga club at SOAS and went to their bar sometimes with students from her own hall who studied there.
She says the teaching is fantastic and plenty of personal attention.
Re accommodation: first choice here - intercollegiate halls. This is a mix of UoL students thus v varied backgrounds.
Bear in mind that 90% of intake is girls and in her year there were 3 heterosexual boys in a total of 90 students. Duchy House is very girl heavy due to this. It's also self catered (I've preferred catered halls for meeting folk at mealtimes). Her hall had a bar that students would go to in their pyjamas later in the evenings 😳.

@wwyd2021medicine Thank you, that’s really helpful info. Reassuring to hear that they do mix with both KCL and UCL. Interesting about the halls, did your DD live in Duchy House or the intercollegiate? I think she’s quite taken with the idea of living on the Strand but I will suggest the intercollegiate to her.

She was in an intercollegiate hall. I basically chose it in a v unMNetty way. She had enough on her plate tbh so I just told her which one I'd go for an why - mix with others M and F with different backgrounds and courses - catered more sociable imo - bar (social again). Plus less than 10 mins walk to mainline station to home. I was v definite she wasn't going anywhere that wasn't an easy walk to courtauld too

@wwyd2021medicine , thanks. Looking at intercollegiate halls, the only two options seem to be either College hall or International hall. The latter seems to be cheaper buts caters more for families and couples . Was your DD in either of these ?

No
And I specifically remember excluding international hall due to families/older students
