I qualified as a nurse in 1994. RGN, no diploma, no degree. In 1999 the RAF sent me to Uni to do an Infection Control course which I did as a diploma.

I now want to top up my diploma to a degree and would like to do so through the OU as I am a SAHM in Cyprus so it would suit my lifestyle.

I can't really do a nursing top up as most of them seem to require you to be practising - which I am not.

So what can I do? Any suggestions gratefully received - thanks

There are so many to choose from. Have you had a look at their website. What sort of thing are you interested in. You could compliment your nursing with a health studies or psychology course

Can I top it up with absolutely anything then? Do I just look at level 3 courses and get the right number of points? Is it as simple as that?

I think it depneds on what you want your degree to be called. I have just finished my psychology Msc and in order for it to be called that and not an MA or a different subject there were certain courses I had to take and others i could choose from.

Email them or ring them and explain your situation and ask their advice. they are really helpful and will be able to steer you in the right direction.

I don't have any specific suggestions but if you can phone the OU they were extremely helpful to me when I phoned up about course choices.

Yes I think you're right I need to ring them and see what they suggest.

It'll depend on what exactly you mean by a diploma. OU degrees are a minimum of 360 CATS (Credit Accumulation and Transfer Scheme) points. Diplomas are normally 120 points, though Higher National (HND) and Scottish DipHE's are 240 points. You can normally expect to transfer in most of the points you already have ... bu they'll be allocated a level as well, so ...

... oh heck. This is awful hard. Just phone your local OU office (in the phone book) and the friendly advisers there will help you!
